Question How much should I offer for used hitch?

A guy at work has a Valley (or Husky) 70540 16K 5th wheel hitch is his barn he wants to get rid off. It was on his truck when he bought it, but he tows his livestock trailer with a gooseneck and ball hitch.

No rails, mounting kit or slide. Seems to be in pretty good shape.

New ones are $420 online, less all the above stuff which can all be purchased online.

How much should I offer the guy?

I gave $150 for my used Reese 15k 5'er hitch w/ out rails. The rail kit was around $120 or so and I had someone mount it for me for $50.

Reckon that guy would come out east a little to do mine? Was this a hitch shop or just a guy who knew how to do this?

took it to a hitch shop in West Ft. Worth and it only took 'em 30min to do it

there are now better rail kits out there that make it pretty fool proof for the install as they have brackets that line up with the holes that are already in the truck frame

these weren't out when I had mine done otherwise I'd probably had got one of them.

I don't think $50 would be the norm anymore for the install but it shouldn't be over $100

150.00 if its in rust free condition and no kinks

i had mine installed last time as well, i was pressed for time and a spot to do it
they charged 125 and added a bed plug

this was two years ago
and i had to rewire the bed plug later on, as they didnt put the reverse lights in, long story...
