How to know a good deal?

Even with the great advise we are no closer on deciding which avenue we will take. Here is a previous thread I created:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ase-31219.html

So this weekend the wife and I decided to browse new and used TT at our local Alpin Haus dealer. We saw a few used TT on the website that we might be interested in and the wife wanted to take a look at the new Avengers. We are no closer on what type of RV but we did decide that if it were a TT we wanted bunks and a slide.

We also decided on a type of layout that we liked and after doing some research the Forest River Salem 26TBUD is exactly the layout we would be interested in.

So this is where my question comes in. Some of the used TT were between $11 - $13k and some of the new Avengers were low to mid 20's. BUT I see some of the Salem 26TBUD being advertised NEW anywhere from $15,600 up to $22,000. When I look at them they all seem to be the same TT... maybe there are different options that I'm not seeing???

So why is there such a huge price difference? I believe the MSRP on these are low to mid 20's. I guess I'm having a hard time believing the $15,600 are legit prices.

After looking at the used TT I would def. be more interested in the new 26TBUD for an addition 2-3k. The used ones were pretty beat for the price.

Anyways I feel I'm just rambling... so if anyone could explain what to watch for when dealing with such a big difference in price range on the same TT I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Below is the search I did for the TT:

I noticed those ads were from different states which might account for some of the price difference. My trailer was priced differently with the same dealer but different location. The lower price was a special sale price. Some of the pricing might be upgrades but I'm sure others will chime in.

Use the ads priced low to your advantage. Find a couple of ads, get the details, then take that info to the dealer that you want to buy from and some serious wheeln' and dealn'. If he won't come down to a reasonable price, then find another dealer that will.

If you look at the pictures the lower priced units have a different decal on the front of the unit then the higher priced units. I know that the decal should not make a difference it could indicate a different model of the same unit.

When I was shopping for mine, I went straight to the online wholesalers, RVDirect and RVWholesalers. They give you an easy, hassle-free quote in minutes that will be their bottom line offer. It's usually the lowest around. Use that as a baseline. That's what I did and it has worked out very well. You'll be surprised how low their quote will be compared to your local dealers.

Good point about the different decals. Might a newer 2013 vs older 2013. The ads also vary in how many it can sleeps from 7-9 too.

Transport is about $1.65/mile, so the closer the dealer is to the factory, the lower his price can be.
And some are just more competitive than others.

It has been my experience that they quote a price "plus shipping."

It might be good for you to get an out the door on the road price... the bottom line. Make sure you compare apples tp apples. Model, options taxes and all of that stuff included. SHOP IT !. Make sure you get a good dealer with a reputation of taking care of their customers after the sale . Good luck.

When we were shopping for a new fifth, every dealer we talked to gave us a price at their lot. And when I look around the internet these days, I also see those varying prices, and it seems to vary with location. There is no mention of additional freight charges.

Imho.... it's important for you to take control of the deal, it's your money. Remember apples to apples out the door on the road everything included the way YOU want it. It's your deal. Ask alot of questions... know WHAT YOUR buying. Just me.

Thanks for the input and advise. I'd also like to thank Herk for the thread that you posted. Good read and great advise on there as well.

It was mentioned a few times about RVDirect and RVWholesalers... I tried the site but didn't seem to find the model TT I'm interested in. Not sure if I was doing something wrong or that they don't carry that model. I'll check back to see if I can figure it out.

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.

Whatever the price, if you're happy when you make the purchase, that will be the best deal.
