Insurance Claim Settlement

First of all, hello.

I'm new to the forum, very informative and entertaining discussions. However, my first post is a bit of a bummer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Our 2005 (purchased new) 285B+ was damaged in a hail storm to the tune of $12,100. Subsequently our insurance co. Has determined it to be total loss. Here's the kicker, they only value it @ $10,500. Obviously, I feel this is grossly out of line.

Any advice/suggestions regarding the claims process and actual value of my rig would be welcome.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Sorry to read the news about your trailer. Try checking the NADA website to get an idea of the value of your trailer to compare with the insurance company number.

Make sure the insurance company is including the value of all factory installed options and any special hitch gear (sway bars) etc. We had a total loss due to a crash. The first settlement offer was right out of the book (NADA) without consideration of options like ladder, slide topper awnings, etc.

Also make sure they know any modifications you have done since you bought it that would increase its resale value. Receipts will always be taken into consideration. New tires, etc also add to the settlement.
