looking at purchasing a 5th wheel bunkhouse

Hello we are currently looking at upgrading our wolf pack toy hauler to a 5th wheel bunkhouse or loft and would like to hear peoples opinions good and bad. We spend most every weekend from may to 1st of october out in it either in the mountains of colorado or at the lakes of colorado. We have 3 children 7 girl, 6 boy and 3 boy and would like this to be the last one we need to buy for some time. Thank you

Given your camping agenda, the first thing I would consider is that the 5th wheel isn't so large that you can't get it into some of the campgrounds. Some of the National Forest Service campgrounds are a little tight.

I currently have a bunkhouse floorplan and they are great. We only have 2 children, a 6 year old boy and 3 year old girl, so we are currently selling ours. We envisioned more kids and friends coming along, but it just didn't happen. Heck we have 2 bunks that have never been slept in so we are downsizing. Coach is listed in classifieds if interested and I have more photos as well. Bunkhouses and children go hand in hand.IMO

we got a 2011 Rockwood 8281SS that we have not camped in yet because of the weather, but the layout is great for us, we have two young girls so the extra bathroom is great.....

we like the 8281ss as well for the second bathroom . We have one girl, but have a large dog crate that sits in the slide out bunk for our 2 dogs... its great that she has her own space when she gets tired of us ....plus she doesnt wake me us up in the middle of the night with bathroom trips as most 5th's have the bathroom in the forward bedroom.

We also have a Rockwood 8281SS which we have been very happy with. It is much nicer having separate beds for the kids and not having to convert a couch or dinette every night and you still have the extra sleeping capacity of the couch and dinette when needed for the occasions they have friends along. It works well for us.

We just went through this, again. If you truly do not want to not purchase again for awhile, then put size aside for a moment, think real hard about the loft concept - great while they are small, not so good as the age, sizewise, and defently not an advantage when the 10/11 year old wants to begin bringing friends. We started w/ a pop up and as the kids grew we upgraded to a 33 bunkhouse (4 bunks in back - Puma BHSS), we just traded it off on a Sirerra 365SAQ - 5th wheel and second bath. FYI our kids are 11, 9, and 5 so as you can figure we did all this in about a 5yr timeframe. Hopefully this one will last us awhile, besides the slides in back bunkhouse to create more space and a second bath, the space for the entertainment system back there - we allow early morning and rain day use, the additional pull out bed (5th) in the back helped the we want to bring friends issue without having to drop the table or setup the air bed. Seperate from all that the "boss" liked the concept of outside frig, for kids snacks and soda/water and the outside direct access to the back bath, no tracking dirt through the TT to get to the bathroom. Back to size, we camp all over including national forest areas while they are tight I have not had any real issues with getting our 35 into and out small sports it just takes time and pratice.
Bottom line - if you want to keep camping as the kids hit the teens size it in now.

We have looked at all kinds of bunk floor plans from travel trailer to 5th wheel. We ended up ordering the 365 SAQ. The back bunk room and second bathroom sold us. We ordered it with a sofa in back to make it a little more confortable for sitting in.

We also just got the Sandpiper 365SAQ, and are thinking about removing the factory bunks and putting in two loft beds like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/pro...E236900_S4.JPG . This will give the kids the entire floor to play.
