Lou, I had the alimony too but when you have a property settlement there is no deduction on the return. I've actually been married 40 years....25 the first time and 15 the second!

I almost put in the "Happily Married" joke, but DW was looking over my shoulder.

I assume you mean the one that a client pulled on me once. I'm doing the interview for his tax return and I asked him if he was married. He replied, "Yes, I am. Four of the happiest years of my life. Twenty-five years in all."

When he said that to me I almost fell off my chair.

I'm proud of what I have achieve with my RVing journey but it would be nice to be able to share it with someone too. It's not always easy being a single women. My cousins and I were discussing this the other day and considering our age we ended up wishing that you could rent a husband for the day.

I would have to run this by my wife.
I am willing, but it will be a tough sell I think.

If she is like my wife she would be more than happy about it,but she would have to get the rent money.Probably she would be even happier with an outright sale.

We need to move this whole section to the jokes and humor area. I have been chuckling for hours.

"Happily Married" joke

I asked him if he was married. He replied, "Yes, I am. Four of the happiest years of my life. Twenty-five years in all."

I dont want to sound dumb but I dont get it - maybe cause I am not married or never heard it to understand it - please enlighten me

sherdep, the guy has been married to his wife 25 years (but only 4 of them have been happy years).

The joke that I thought it was going to be: "I've been married 25 years, but with the windchill it feels like 30". (an allusion to spousal frigidity)

Thanks for explaining it because I didn't get it either.

LOL - but the point of renting is so that you can return the spouse at the end of the day, kind of like grandkids.

On the other hand, I was discussing the high cost of labradoodles (I want a dog but my DW has allergies) and one of the ladies I work with shamed me with a rant on the high cost of husbands.
So hey, rent a husband, buy a dog, it's a tossup as to which is better company. Whatever you do, enjoy your time, and

Getting back on topic, and trying to make sure all of us who have made wise-guy statements dont' get in trouble when our spouses read this, this is one of the tax breaks we do get. There has been some discussion in Congress about eliminating the deduction for mortgage interest on a second home, but so far that hasn't gone anywhere. Those folks can't even agree on what day of the week it is so I don't see any major tax changes happening before the next election.....I'm sure the timing is purely coincidental!

Lou, it's an important enough topic that a lot of folks don't know what they can and can't do to emphasis it in a couple of places. It's similar to the discussions of people using a Montana LLC to avoid sales tax.....a lot of questions and not a lot of accurate information.
