No insurance - Gulf Coast states

We are checking on insurance for the Toy Hauler we ordered and the first insurance company we checked with told us that many insurance companies will not insure RVs in Gulf Coast states due to hurricanes. Is this true?

Call the lizzard, GEICO, they insure RVs in Florida, I know, mine is insured with them.

This is a common practice with ANY insurance company. NO policies are written while a storm is in the Gulf.

Thanks for your reply milzat. So they will insure an RV when there isn't a storm in the Gulf? I was under the impression that many will never insure an RV in Gulf Coast states.

I added my TT to my Geico last month with no trouble. But no company will write a policy while there is a storm in the gulf. Bonnie doesn't really qualify as a storm anymore, so you should be able to get insurance Monday morning.

This is a common practice - when a named storm in within a certain area, insurance companies stop accepting new clients and will not increase/add coverage for existing clients. The obvious reason is to prevent people from waiting to buy insurance until a storm is imminent and then cancelling it afterwards. Happens here in NC when a hurricane/TS is in the Atlantic.

One of the problems with OBAMACARE is that insurance companies cannot deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, so the fear is that people will wait until they are sick to get coverage. That is another story though

I added my coach to my State farm insurance and they coverd me. I live in Corpus Christi TX and they do cover RV's just not when there is a storm in the gulf. That applies to any house wind and flood insurance they wont insure any thing with a storm in the gulf.

Checked GEICO and they were way high $480 a year.
Landed up getting the exact same coverage at Progressive for $180 a year.

No problem with USAA. We are paying about $140 a year for our Rockwood Windjammer 3001W. They now offer their services to all veterns and service members.

I shopped around and Progressive was hands down the best deal on RV Insurance. While I was shopping I compared my MC Insurance to Progressive's and they were better on that to. I now have both toys covered by Progressive.

Both vehicles, ATV, TT, and boat (before we sold it) were all with Progressive. Great service and great little perks. On the TT policy they include pet insurance and roadside assistance for no additional charge to the rate. They are very quick and easy to deal with online or on the phone. (never can get Flo though). I have been a customer for about 12 years. Highly recommend you check them out for price and coverages.

I just switched to Progressive which actually gave me a better rate for my 5th wheel than the lizard. I also have my ATV insured by them.
The exact same coverage. And I'm also ready to do the same with my homeowers insurance.

If you are conservative minded you might want to "Google" Progressive Insurance and George Soros. That's all I'm saying.

Insurance companies will not write Gulf Coast insurance when a hurricane is in the gulf. Otherwise they will. The cost is outrageous, but you can get it.

Not at all. I'm 30 miles from the gulf coast here in Texas. I pay $140 a year with USAA on a new travel trailer.

Sorry, I was lumping homeowners' in with TT insurance. Our TT insurance is cheap, with Geico along with the truck and the car.
I may have to switch to Progressive tho......
