Noob with Generator Questions
Hello Kids,
Just got a new Salem 26TBSS and it is our first TT. We will be using it mostly at weekend softball tournments w/o the ability to plug in. So...we'll need a generator. To run my 13.5 AC, TV/DVD, and misc lights, does everyone still recommend running 2 Honda EU2000i 's together w/cable? A few guys here at work have the Honda's and like them, but say they are costly (around $900 each).
My local RV Supply store is telling me the KIPOR is basically the same, but costs less. Funds are tight, but I wanna purchase the correct unit(s). Will a 3500 or 3000 gen work for me? Will a 3000 or 3500 be too loud for a campsite, when we go to some? Is the Kipor in fact good and quiet? I don't wanna upset you veteranos with some loud piece of garbage at a campsite !!
Really enjoy the site and have learned so much all ready...thanks. We are really excited about the trailer and looking forward to doing some camping

Welcome to the forum!
One of the things I would ask your genset dealer to do is put the generator in a grassy place and run it under load. Have a listen and see what you think. People do love their Hondas, almost to the point of "radicalized cult status"!!
If you scour around, you may find a suitable genset as a factory rebuilt (which generally means some minor defect was fixed or the customer used it one weekend and returned it) or a showroom demo or maybe "scratch and dent" sale.
Again, welcome to the forum!

While I do have a Honda EU2000I and love it, I know it is underpowered for an AC unit. I have heard a lot of others speak well of the Yamaha 2400 and apparently it works fine running newer A/C units. Yamaha is also supposed to be quiet like a Honda.
....something to consider.

I've used the Honda 2000 and 3000 at work. Both are very quiet, and easy starting. I would think the 3000 would be a great bet for running A/C...and easier than hooking two 2000's together. (probably cheaper too)
I guess you'll have to add up your 'juice needs' and settle on what size you'll actually need and go from there. I know some people with KIPOR models that say they are fine. I have not personally heard one, however. There are a bunch of generator threads at outbackers.com forums. Here is a rundown of the proclaimed noise decibels: (prices may not be current)
Yamaha
EF2800i 60-67 dBA 63.8 Lbs. $1350 E-Bay
EF3000iSE 51-57 dBA 147 Lbs. $1729 E-Bay
EF3000iSEB 51-57 dBA 147 Lbs. $1899 E-Bay
Honda
EM3000CC 68 dBA 68.2 Lbs.
EU3000isCA 49-58 dBA 129 Lbs.
Kipor
IG3000 62-67 dBA 132 lbs. $1149 E-Bay

You should look into the Yamaha 2400. For the money it is a very good generator and will handle a 13.5 a/c unit. Noise wise it is very comparable to the Honda 2000

Okay, I will throw a vote out there for the Chinese Genset crowd.
We had to start taking our TT to softball tourneys this year. That involves parking in a very large parking lot with a few other RVs from our team... boondocking Fri and Sat nites.
Normally we camp in state parks, rv parks with shore power, so I refused to spend $1000 plus for a generator. From another forum I learned about the Champion series of generators carried by Cabela's... $399 later and I am as pleased as can be. 68db, less than 100# and not that much louder than the Blue and Red gensets we camped with last weekend.
Plenty of juice to run everything on the trailer. And it even has an RV 30AMP plug on the side.

Generator
I FOUND IT IS CHEAPER TO BUY 2 EU2000S THAN TO BUY
THE 3000 PLUS YOU GET MORE POWER/ALSO IF IM NOT
MISTAKEN TWO 2000S ARE LIGHTER THAN THE 3000!

I have a Kipor and like it works great. I hear the Hondas are good too. The Kipor is pretty quiet.

Honda 3000 very heavy
I purchased the 3000 Honda, but it was more weight than I could handle. Also too tall for my locking tonneau cover to close. I returned it unused and purchased a pair of EU2000 Hondas. I have never regretted it. They have taken good care of us for a year now. Eonomical to run and very quiet.

I got one of these from Tractor supply for 200 bucks, brand new. Twelve hour run time (it really does it, BTW), and not too noisy (we can't hear it inside). And the same amount of juice as if we are on shore power! We love ours!
