Proactive RV Warranty

I have just purchased a Sandpiper 3781REBH, and my dealer is now offering me an extended warranty for half the original quote or 2k (thank God I didn't say yes when they said 4k!).

If I buy it, I can cancel at any time and get a prorated refund. The coverage is transferable for a small fee.

I'm generally disinclined to buy warranties as it has been pretty well established they do not benefit consumers as a whole, but my salesman, whose job it is to sell me the insurance of course, says
a. They're only making $150 profit, and it's for my benefit
b. RVs often need repairs, and I will get coverage more readily through their plan.
c. They use Proactive RV: RV, which they claim is the best in the business.
d. It will enhance the resale value of my RV (I do plan to sell in about 18 months).

Anyone have experience with Proactive?
Any thoughts about resale value and warranties?

You would need a lot of repairs to get your $2000 back in 18 months (which is only 6 months since you have a 12 month already). The dealer does not make any money on the Forest River warranty. The dealer makes money on both sides of the other warranty, selling it to you and servicing the unit.

Since the contract is pro-rated, 18 months would actually cost me about $750.

If you decide to go for the extra extended warranty, ( I would not), ask for a guaranteed repair time in writing. A covered repair is of little value if your new RV sits at the dealer all season waiting for them to get to it. Also check to see what their "outs" and required service /checks are. Y

Cancelled Mine

I just cancelled the extended warranty I had purchased on my Wolf Pup when I bought it (about $750). My poor dealer experience leads me to believe little would actually be covered through one excuse or another. Parts falling off were called "adjustments" by my dealer and brakes are wear items, even when they are destroyed by bad wiring. Read the print carefully; you will find almost any problem you might have will not be covered under warranty. In my case, the addition of solar and having to do all the repairs myself would give them an excuse to deny coverage. Just my opinion.

That's salesman talk for "I won't make any money if you buy the warranty from FR. Buy this one from me instead for 10X the amount."
