queen bed size?

My parents are looking for a new travel trailer and specifically, they want a bigger bed. After searching around online and looking at a number of brochures, I've noticed that there are at least 2 different measurements for a queen-sized bed. Some are 60" X 74" and some are 60" by 80".

I've also noticed that a lot of manufacturers don't even list the bed measurements on the floorplan layouts. It just says "queen bed". It makes it really difficult to search for a trailer that meets their requirements.

60 x 80 is a residential queen size

Alot of rv's have short queen beds and those are 60 x 74

They usually highlight if the unit has a true queen bed - it is a selling point to some

If your're taller than 5'10" or your pet sleeps on the bed, you'll probably want the full 80" residential size. At 5'10", I'm right on the edge. Our new (used) TT it has the 74" short queen but the floorplan will allow me to add a 6" wide piece of foam at the head of the bed to give us the extra length for sleeping if I'm not comfortable with the shorter length.

A floorplan with the entertainment center touching the foot of the bed doesn't give you that option.

You're right about the measurement not always being listed. It's always best to check out the floorplan in person but if you can't, you can at least check out a 74" short queen at a local dealer in another floorplan.

Let your parents take a tape measure when they go shopping, this is the only way to be sure. The brochure may say 60 x 80 or what ever but the dealer may have ordered a different size to make the bedroom appear more spacious. I totally get their point, I'm 6'3" and a 74" mattress would be an insult to my body. Having said that we had a 5th wheel once with a short queen mattress and put a 6" piece of foam between the mattress and the wall. It may also be possible to fore go the rv mattress completely and go with a residential one.

We didn't like the short queen. When up upgraded fivers we got a king and now these two tall people are happy. Good Luck

It's funny because my parents aren't that tall. But they sleep on a California king at home. So the bed in their TT probably feels shorter than it actually is.
