RECREATION dot GOV cancellation...

I chose to cancel a reservation at a National Park because of the shutdown issue with recreation dot gov which is where I made the reservation to begin with. I did this on January 25.

After not yet seeing a credit to my credit card, I inquired online and got this response yesterday...

Quote:
All refunds of fees paid prior to October 1, 2018 will be returned by check. A mailing address listed on your account is required to process and mail the check for the refund payment. Please allow up to 8 weeks for processing.
Does anyone think that after having my credit card payment in advance for over 6 months that I would have to wait another 2 months to get a CHECK in the mail? What is up with that?

I would assume whatever 3rd party company that is now in charge of the recreation.gov website is the problem. That site is a friggin mess. Wish they would drain that swamp and bring back the old format!!!

Two months? That's not bad for the government.
I got a letter from SS saying they were going to mail me a check "soon" for some sort of overpayment. That was well over a month ago. I'm not holding my breath...

It would only take a couple of key strokes to credit it back to your CC.

We tried to make reservations at Trap Pond State Park in Delaware last year, but they would not accept our Discover CC. They ask what dates we wanted, when we told them, they said they had a lot of openings, so just come on down, pay cash or check, you'll be fine. We were traveling about 350 mi & were a little nervous, but it all worked out. When we checked in, we asked why they didn't accept Discover, she said with Discover it takes 30 to 60 days to get paid and the State doesn't want to wait that long. But, she said Delaware tells all their vendors it will take 90 days for them to get paid by the state. "Go figure", she said.

I made a reservation in Nov. at recreation.gov and cancelled in Jan. My credit card was "credited" the charge and reflected in my Feb. credit card statement. I would call and talk with them by phone. Also, did you get a confirmation email showing your reservation had been cancelled?

The Government works in mysterious ways, that is when it does operate.

Govrefund

Had a similar experience with site. Made reversation with card and was overcharged. When I checked in voiced my concern. They took all my information and 2 months later received a check. Was toid they could not refund to my card. With shut down you may be looking at three months! Lots of luck!

Around the Bend...

note the difference between your reservation and mine...

All refunds of fees paid prior to October 1, 2018 will be returned by check...

I had made the reservation at the beginning of the 6 month window which would have been in early September for an early February reservation... but thanks for the suggestion...

Probably run by a Contractor, not the Guvament. It's what we get when profit is the only motive, and customer service goes to heck, because there's no money in it. Have had a number of Campground experiences where Private Contractors have replaced the Government run management. They hire Camp Nazis, and only open when it's profitable to them. I never return.

Recreation.gov is run by a contractor. Booz Hamilton Allen is the contractor currently running the Recreation.gov site. They were awarded the 10 year contract last year. The previous 10 years, ACTIVE network was the contractor. Gee imagine a giant"Management Consulting Firm" slow to refund money!
