I agree with ependydad, depending on how clean you like to keep your RV, you will want something to wipe your feet on for sure. The larger the better.

I think a good awning mat is a must - helps to keep the camper clean and looks nice.

A "good" mat in my opinion is made of Polypropylene, is lightweight, strong and is "weaved" to allow water and air to pass through so you won't have any puddles on your mat. This also makes the mat campground-friendly and won't ruin their grass.

You will find more and more campgrounds frown on indoor/outdoor carpet as it kills/harms the grass. Get a woven poly rug as suggested, it allows air and water to penetrate and dries quickly.
