Stationary Ins.

Does anyone have experience with "STATIONARY' Ins. here in FLA.? Just found out that only CITIZEN INS is writing policies in FLA. I e-mailed them for a quote yesterday but hav'nt gotten a reply yet. Sounds expensive allready.

Search "insurance" on the Forum. I know its a cop out, but there are too many threads to try and hunt them all down for you.

Briefly, your TV's insurance covers your camper ONLY when it is connected to the TV. If anything happens to it when it is not connected, you are not covered without adding the camper to your car insurance as a separate "vehicle". That way the camper will have its own "Comprehensive;" Liability; and Towing and labor policies.

You would be covered for hail damage, tree falling on it, wind damage, theft, someone falls off your step; etc. to the limits of your policy.

This ONLY works if you are not a "full timer" in your RV. USAA (my insurance) was pretty specific about that. Less than 6 months a year I believe I remembered. If you have a Seasonal Camper on a fixed site you, most likely, will need Homeowners Insurance.

I have a mobile home in Florida, that I've lived in since new, and I currently have Safe Harbor Insurance, also known as Cabrillo General Insurance co. My Flagstaff camper is on my Allstate car policy, listed and paid as a separate vehicle, like Herk said. Safe Harbor's Jacksonville contact number is through Gray & Gray West ins., at904 781 9280. Cabrillo/Safe Harbor's headquarters is P.O. box 357965 in Gainesville Fl. 32635-7965. I have a 1 800 claims reporting hotline for them, ut no info. number. Good Luck; I had one he** of a time finding ANYTHING other than citizen's, which is twice as costly, with half of the coverage!! All you can do is try it. Randy

We insure with Allstate (house, car and MH) and our MH insurance allows us to park it for the winter and suspend the on-road liability coverage. Saves about $150 a year, depending on when we shut it off and restart. The rig is on our 3rd driveway pad when parked.

Only problem with that is that Allstate no longer writes homeowner policies in the state of Florida, which I am assuming you're trying to acquire for a camper on a fixed piece of property. I know, because I HAD a great Allstate MOBILE HOME policy- and they cancelled ALL HOMEOWNER policies in Florida after hurricane Katrina came through the Homestead area. I see Frank and Eileen are Washingtonians- Allstate is different there! Randy

I would try Progressive, I know they offer more coverages than most of the other companies I contacted, they may be able to help you out. I got a good price from them too!

I agree with most of what Herk said above, although I will say that my agent said the TT is only covered for liability when connected to the TV. As far as comprehensive and collision coverage goe I am on my own, unless I have a policy for the TT. FWIW, this may be something that varies from one insurance company to another, but from our conversation with the agent I got the impression that this was something that held true for all companies. Could vary by state as well I guess, but the moral here is to check with your agent before you buy the coverage, or follow to ensure you do in fact have the coverage you think you have!! I would hate to see anyone in a situation where we are out because we thought we had something we don't.

I am only up on all this because I just shopped this week for coverage for our new camper we get to take home next week!!

In trhe state of FLORIDA, it is VERY difficult to find ANYBODY that will insure a manufactured home-(mobile home; trailer) at all- and they are ANCHORED to the ground; some even set up on slabs. All of this is because of hurricane Katrina, which devastated south Florida-(where there were a lot of mobile home retirement communities) and the insurence industry was dealt a severe punch from this. I personally live in a Double Wide mobile home, and had Allstate homeowners. No more Allstate homeowners of ANY kind in Fla. now. Stationary camper insurance would surely be even more of a risk to the insurance companies than a mobile home; which is anchored to the ground with straps every 4 feet- unlike a camper would be. Those companies mentioned above won't insure mobile homes; so I seriously doubt they would touch a stationary camper set up, either. GOOD LUCK in your search! Your'e gonna need it!!! Randy

We live in Miami, Florida and had no problems with GEICO insuring our last three campers: two popups and our current travel trailer. Get a quote at GEICO | RV Insurance Quote - Get a free RV insurance quote

UPDATE: I just noticed the heading in the OP, Stationary Insurance. My apologies as my reply then does not apply.
