I went with the portable unit $228 plus $45 for shipping to Canada and another $40ish for HST. So with the currency exchange I was up around $360 Canadian plus $40 making it around $400. Don't regret buying it but it is pricy.

Absolutely, and totally agree. at my 7/4 cg this year... think of this...in a block of eight campers..me (HTT) 28ft fr next to me, neanderthal with a/c behind me, a pup, a class A and a tri axle 200x. Me, the PI keeps on shutting down. Display reads 104 and keeps shutting power off. I am safe, thanks to PI. No one else complains, A/C cranking (except for poor pup). I even chat with tri ax 5th guy who said both his a/c's are running fine. Don't want to fry my equipment so I don't over run anything. Am I too protected, or (this nationally know cg chain to blame)?

Been there, no protection; open neutral, BAD $$$$!! Electrician (at resort at midnight) checked pedestal, no open neutral. ISSUE: bam; open neutral as verified next morning by independent mobile rv tech. RV resort paid up for call; new microwave BUT had water heater and inverter issue down the road.
Read previous post and note: indicator vs protection. Spend your money and buy Progressive EMS.
If you go another route, you will be out your $$$ and complaining and then shopping! Save yourself the headache. Electrical issue in these boxes we call RV's can be deadly! Is your family's SAFETY AND PEACE OF MIND worth $500? If not, SELL AND BAIL! I know mine is!
When our electrical power issue happened at midnight, we slept with all power off until a tech came the next day. If you have ever seen these "RV's" burn, you will RUN to buy protection. My opinion is manufacturers should include it in the build NOT AS AN OPTION! What's another $400 at build?

I'm glad they don't include it, because if it was the same quality as some of the other materials, it would burst into flames the first time you plug it in

Have 50amp same system and it is in CONSTANT use, daily, as our Silverback sits on her pad in GA mountains until next trip in September.
I also have the cable Master Lock described. My KEY BROKE IN THE LOCK after a couple of uses. Replaced for free immediately by TechnoRV.com FOR THE REPLACEMENT I WENT TO ACE HARDWARE AND HAD A BETTER QUALITY KEY (of harder composite) made.
This week I went to the mountains and checked the rv and planned on a quick overnight. 60mph winds, VIOLENT THUNDERSTORMS WITH PLENTY OF LIGHTNING, SEVERAL POWER LOSSES AND BACK WITHIN 2 hours of HELL and PROGRESSIVE WAS WORKING IT's BEST!! Power restored each time with 2 minute ac delays....

After the surge suppressor then the next must have is a TPMS. That way when you are plugged in at campground you will have piece of mind and when you are rolling down the highway you will have piece of mind, piece of mind makes camping so much more fun!!!!!!!!!!!

it's already been said many times but having a surge protection / electrical monitor seems like a no brainer. we were in a campground last night watching the lighting show and suddenly a bright flash of light and most rvs lost their power. turns out these were the ones that had protection. within a couple of minutes the protection devices reset themselves and we had power again. would we have suffered damage without one? don't know, but I do no that we did not suffer damage by having one! nor did any of the other rv's that had one. i'm sure this included both progressive and surgegard units, both 30 and 50 amp. they worked!!!

My hard wired 50 amp Progressive protector is always in the circuit and protecting our RV and is protected from the sticky finger bunch that want to walk off with them.

I have portable surge suppressor, I trade campers often and I try to stay away from anything electrical. I keep mine locked around the post, it keeps honest people from walking off with it. No need to try to stop a thief

This is great information. Thanks to everyone for their input. I've read all posts, my question is, I have a Grey Wolf 22RR TT, should I get the Progressive 30 or 50? Price is not a concern as I understand the meaning of value. Is 50 too much?

If your trailer is 30 amp you can get either. If your trailer is a 50 amp you have to get a 50 amp. A 50 amp will work fine on a 30 amp trailer it just won't use one of the circuits. 50 amp trailers use 2 hot legs of power. Do you know if you are getting a portable or hardwired unit.
