Yea, that occasionally happens to me, too, but I've made numerous successful sales and purchases on CL and no criminals have taken advantage of me. I do believe it's important to open a verbal dialogue with the buyer/seller to have an opportunity to assess the person on the other end of the phone before agreeing to meet, especially on my turf.

I have about a 25% success rate with Kijiji.
Most of the time, it's offers for less than half, or people just asking if you still have whatever you are selling.

I have used CL a few times but always create a gmail account just for the sale. Once there is a dialogue that looks real and promising I give the buyer /or seller my actual email account. This way I only have to put up with the offers I can't refuse for a short period of time. I would never use my real email of cell ph number ( via text or otherwise) on a CL ad.

Yep you get those scam text and email sometimes. Occasionally you will get a call from a 3rd party listing agent wanting to help you sell it.
I personally have crazy good luck with Craigslist. I think I've sold over half a million US dollars of stuff on there in the past 5 years.
Just keep at it and add some o's inatead of 0's in your phone number or write out some of the numbers. I don't allow emails, as I've had zero sales from them. If someone is seriously interested, they will call or text.

Wish I had 1/10th of a 1/2 million bucks worth of items to sell on craigslist.
I hate craigslist for following reasons:
1. People haggle online without even seeing the item in person. What's that all about?
2. People have been rude via email to me if you you won't come down to their low ball price.
3. Deadbeats who low ball originally than agree to a fair price but never show up I never sell from my home and meet at public place, usually in police station parking lot.
4. Deadbeats who show up but can't get financing for a camper that they agreed to buy at a negotiated price. I "sold" my camper 4 times last summer and the 5th buyer came with cash...nothing like $13,500 in 20 dollar bills...LOVE IT!
5. Buyers who expect more than was advertised. Just sold an equalizer hitch and I was very complete in my listing with pics and description. A buyer who didn't read my ad was upset with me because it was missing the "lifter" pry bar.
Regardless, I sold my 5th wheel hitch, a 10,000 lb equalizer hitch, a telescoping ladder, and four 20" inch F150 wheels on craigslist last week. It was a PITA but I got rid of unneeded stuff and it paid for my 24k Curt 5th wheel hitch.
Yes, 3rd party sellers who want to sell my stuff for me are pretty awesome.

So which 3rd party sellers have you used? Were they able to get your camper sold in a reasonable fashion? I have been contacted by a couple of them and I am leery. I don't want to have sellers remorse and have a fool and his money soon parted. Others thoughts on this highly appreciated.

To me its the old addage, "You get what you pay for". I've been buying and selling on eBay since the mid 90s, and have never had the trouble i've had on CL. People know there's no security or screening of any sort on CL so they take advantage of that. To me the small amount eBay charges is worth the lack of headache, not to mention the buyer protection, etc...
CL has its place, for dealing locally and whatnot but it needs more security.

CAUTION - These are scams. I get them within about 10 minutes after I post an ad. They always say contact them by email not text as they are at work - then why are they checking Kijiji at work and texting you in the first place? I always check the area code - I live in central Canada and they text me from all over the Southern US. They will later ask for bank info so they can transfer money to you after you confirm to ship at your price to them. I was selling a teenager desk and hutch you can buy new for $700, for $300. The freight to California would cost them probably $400+. Made no sense why someone would want to do that. I only take email and phone call replies - I don't reply to texts unless from my local area.

Well, I have sold a couple cars, a pop up camper and my Shadow Cruiser.... all on Craigslist. Also been hit up by a few scammers.
Longtime eBayer as well and have had good/bad results there too.
One thing I do hate is the jerks that want to negotiate w/o seeing the item for sale. I just don't continue the conversation when that happens.

I love CL. I just sold some old RZR tires/wheels and windshield same day posted. Also sold my 1964 Fairlane unfinished build and a high dollar sandrail.
I don't give a phone to call or text. I used the CL relay. Haven't had any crazies contacting me since...may be just coincidence

This is classic wording of a scammer reply. We have done a good amount of selling on craigslist over an eight year period and we would not reply to this email. Rather we would flag the email, so that others don't get taken in.
When we post the ad, we state "Please call. if this ad is posted, the item is for sale. We may choose to respond to an email very specific to this ad." An email asking if it is still for sale is ignored or flagged, depending on the wording. We will never give directions for viewing without a phone call. The caller is then added to our phone directory with name and the item they are calling about. If it is a blocked number, forget it. Except for one very large item, buyers are not allowed in the house. Cash only. We set the rules.

Nothing I ever listed on C/L even got a response. I guess my listed price was too low to be believed.....
