Tips on buying Used TT for Private Party

Not sure if this is the correct section?
When looking at a used TT from a private individual what things, questions, etc... should be asked?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ask for any service/maintainance records. Check tires, brakes, roof and all places where caulked. Fire up the furnace, hot water heater, stove/oven. Turn on AC and fridge, check every light and outlet, exhaust fans. Look everywhere for any signs of water intrusion. If fiberglass look at the exterior walls for any signs of delamination. If your willing to spend a few bucks on your investment it might be worth it to hire a mobile RV service tech to look it over. I'm sure others will chime in and add to the list.

I just bought a TT of ebay and I think as long as everything major works (firdge, AC, etc.) then you are probably ok. Check the condition of the tires, exterior of the camper, and condition overall. Chances are if it's kept in good appearances, the maintenance would have been performed as well. Depending on the age, check inside the basement storage and look at the floor joists above you. Make sure there are no holes behind the wheels, etc.

Open the awning and make sure it's in good shape. Most other things can be fixed rather easily if you need to.

Good luck! Do you have a link to it we can check out?

Its a good idea to do the same as you would during a pdi at the dealer - especially with a used camper.

Here is a PDI checklist.

Most people are very open about their campers. I would ask questions like: Has it ever leaked? Ever been in an accident? Smokers (I hate the sell of smoke)? Any ongoing issues? What changes and modifications have you made? How old are the tires (most trailer tires need to be replaced 3-4 years regardless of how good they look)? Do you mind if I look it over?

X2 on a solid PDI using the forum checklist.

Thanks for the responses! It is a 2012 Flagstaff 26FKWS. I spoke with the owner on the phone today and he said he has only used it about four times and is selling due to health reasons. I will probably try and go look at it this coming weekend.

At that price, I would hire an inspector, about $250-$300, to give it a good look at as a condition of sale. If there are no issues with the RV the owner should not object.
