Travel Trailer insurance

Hello fellow members. We are from north Florida and just purchased our first travel trailer. We are picking it up next Thursday. We purchased a 2013 Salem Cruise Lite 221 RXBL and can't wait to use it. I do have question about where to purchase the most reasonable insurance. Have a great day, Sherry & Frank

I use state farm. I have my house and auto with them. $90 for 1yr 1k deductible.

Hi Sherry and Frank. Welcome!

We've always bundled our trailer insurance in with our auto & home. We get a bit of a discount, but its more for convenience.

Some others will separate their insurance presumably for a cost savings. Either way is fine, but you might as well start with a quote from wherever you have your home and auto and then get quotes from other places if you want to compare.

We also have a separate coverage for towing and things like that with AAA RV Plus but Good Sam's and others also offer these services.

Our insurance is with Progressive. We have our auto there thus the discount. We do have smaller deductibles, which increase the cost. I also have Good Sam road side.

Enjoy the new camper.

I have replacement cost ,full coverage,State Farm $250 deductable....$290.00 yearly ...coverage at the campground when your not hitched is where it gets confusing...someone trips over your ice chest ,hits one head on your awning...etc. I made sure I was covered ..you never know..

I have state farm, but any insurance company you will probably pay +/-$90 annually per $10,000 of replacement value of your trailer, not the actually cost you paid.

Do you mind if I ask what type coverage you get for this premium? We have a separate TT policy through America Modern Ins. Co., $500 deductible, includes cost replacement, collision, towing, emergency expense, etc., for apr. $255 yearly. Just trying to figure out why the large price differences. Thanks!

Got my Insurance

Today I called AARP Hartford Insurance for the insurance for my 2013 Salem Cruise Lite 221RXBL. I already have my vehicles with them. I almost fell over when they said $47.00. But they went on to explain that it was $47.00 a year! Wow I am pleased!!!!!!!!

I have two houses, seven vehicles, boats, a tractor and other odds and ends through Farm Burea but they could not match Progressive on my SxS and TT. I may consider them for all my needs.

Shop around!

When we bought an (SOB (HH)) 07 5th wheel our insurance was MUCH lower than a friends 5 yr old entry level 5er.

X3...we have roadside asst, replacement cost, 1K deductible...great policy.
Beware of "lumping" RV coverage with auto/homeowner policy as a Rider...more detailed coverage with an RV policy.

Congrats on your camper from fellow RV'ers just North of you in GA!

Someone mentioned AAA RV-Plus, which I also have, but it reminded me of another thing to be aware of. If you get roadside assistance, from AAA or Good Sam or whoever, be sure that your plan includes a provision for towing both vehicles if necessary. If your tow vehicle needs to be towed, you don't want to leave the trailer sitting there on the side of the road to be hit or broken into.

I have all our insurance with Farm Bureau, but I think they are a little high on the 5er and the SxS. Will look for alternatives before renewal time... never hurts to keep them honest.

Farm Bureau here. $80 a year with my homeowners policy and a $250 deductible.

I use Farm Bureau for my two tractors only, on them I could not find anything near their price.
