Have brush guards on both vehicles. Heavy duty ones. The next time I hit a deer, I want to win the match. I hit a deer with the Jeep before the brush guard, $4,900 damage. From that day on it is brush guards for me.

Also note that for insurance purposes you are better off to hit the deer rather than swerve and hit something. No deductible for hitting the deer.

Utility of a Cattle Guard

Auscon: I like the mods. 😆 what is the cost of the truck mod and where can I get it done? Maybe a snow plow would be cheaper.😆

This is not true for most. Maybe in your case, but not for hardly anyone else.
Deer hits along with any other animal, are deemed comprehensive, just like hail, fire, theft, etc.
If you hit something else from swerving to miss an animal, its deemed collision. Most people have the the same deductible for both coverages.

Also a note....most insurance companies will not cover more than $1,000 of additional accessories if you are their insured. So an additional rider should be added for anything over that price like, brush guards, lighting, bedcovers, bedliners, wheels, running boards, hitches (for most of us) etc.

I have a heavy duty winch bumper on my truck. It 3/16" plate with 1" plate where the winch mounts. It with the winch around 600lbs and the rear bumper is around 200. Yet to hit anything but the winch holds good winching the truck with a 12k trailer

Oh God.. Wait until the weight police see that... You must have no payload left to tow anything but a 200lbs utility trailer!

Thought I post some pics

My truck is mainly used to pull my tool trailer for heavy equipment repair and welding. So I winch myself in to the repair sites and out sometimes. But it also pulls my toy hauler

I have the Westin HDX. Wish I would have gotten th e one with the winch tray but I found a way to build a winch under the bumper. When I did my research I learned this is what REAL Texas ranchers use for there gates and to actually heard cattle. Most brush guards are cosmetic to look good and these are functional. A hard hit may still bend frame rails but its the difference of driving out of bfe or being disabled.
