WARRANTY

I am the process of buying a 2016 Sunseeker. It is our first purchase so we are very new to the game. The seller claims it is still under warranty but does not have any details. Will the warranty transfer over to me once I purchase it? Do I need to contact FR? Thanks for any info.

The factory warranty will not transfer. They were only for a year and should have expired by now.

If they purchased a 3rd party warranty, you'll have to check its specific contract to see if it transfers or not.

I would verify with FR. they were doing 2 year and some manufacturers warranties are for original owner only.

They may have purchased an extended as well that is transferable.

If from private party you may want to find someone local that does the inspections as well to verify everything is ok and no issues.

If I recall correctly, the 2nd year warranty was only offered for towables.

Could be. We were looking at a Newmar that had a two year but was original owner only.

Bought our Forester used so got an aftermarket warranty for the big things just in case.

Extra warranty

SO I can therefore go purchase an extended warranty from FR? What does it cover and for how long?

FR only offers a 1 year warranty on motorhomes.

The FR warranty is ONLY good for the original owner and NOT transferable.

The 2nd year factory warranty was only available on towables and was discontinued June or July, 2017.

You can't buy a warranty from FR, on a used RV.

Unless this dealer is talking about a 3rd party extended warranty, he's blowing smoke.

Not from FR. You'd have to buy from a 3rd party.

I've used the Good Sam Extended Service Plan (ESP) and it got high regards from a couple of mobile RV techs and service centers.

Thanks for the info. Do most people buy the 3rd party extended warranty?

You will get positive and negatives answers on 3rd party warranties. If you are not a handy person and do not want to do repairs, then maybe a 3rd party warranty will make sense, BUT take it home and read it carefully. Many of them have so many escape clauses that they are of no value. If you don't mind doing some average repairs you may be better off with the 3rd party warranty money in the bank and cover major repairs as needed. Dealers will push them as they generate an additional revenue stream for them. Some require annual inspection by an authorized repair facility. There is usually a fee for this (~$200) plus the cost of any repair needed.

Based on what I've seen on various RV forums, I'd say NO.

There’s an “extended warranty “ thread next to this thread asking that same question. Different thoughts on the issue, but a good discussion to include the names of different companies people have had positive experiences with.

Warranty?

They might be talking about the Ford Chassis warranty. I believe that can be transferred to a 2nd owner.
