Was just looking around at Lowes and found some 1" sched 40 electrical conduit and 1-1/4" sched 40 electrical conduit that would be good material for poles. Would have to paint them, but should be plenty strong. Would require spreading the legs on the attaching brackets about 3/16"-1/4", but they should work. Cheap enough leg material, less than $15 for enough for 2 poles.

Remove the bolts in the arms that hold the motor & torsion spring and install bracket and re-install bolt. Optional to drill 9/32" dia hole using bracket as template and add a 1/4 x 3/4 ss bolt & lock nut.
