Dometic Power Awning Tie Down Kit-PVC Poles

I now have the Dometic Power Awning Tie Down Kit with PVC schedule 40 electrical conduit telescoping poles. These poles are grey and have the same high quality workmanship as the previous alum. poles. All the attaching brackets and stow brackets are still 6065T6 alum, stainless steel bolts & nylock nuts. Rivets are included to install the stow brackets as well as the hitch pins. Installation takes an ave. of 30 minutes. Pole attaching brackets utilize the existing factory bolts.

Price of the new PVC pole kits is $100 + $10 shipping tube + UPS Ground. If you have a motor home and need longer poles, let me know and I will custom make your set at no additional charge.

How are they attached on the ground, or are they just resting on it and you need a tiedown strap as well?

The tie down is a critical part of the support. The adjustment pins just rest on the lower poles and the tie down provides the downward and outward force to support and tension the awning.

Not of them actually deployed.

Here is a photo of the pin stowed and the same pin goes in the adjustment holes in the second photo when the legs are extended.

I got the impression he wanted a photo of the cross pin installed with the awning out and tied down.

Herk is talking about the hitch pin being used when you go from the stow to the deployed position. The later kits have a hole about 3/8" down from the top on the outer pole to insert the pin thru the inner and outer poles. The first sets just relied on inserting the pin in the inner pole and it resting on the outer pole.

In the picture, the rh pole is the old style method of pinning and the one on the left is the new style. Either way works, the advantage of the lh style is you can stow the awning without pinning and then unpinning the poles and then pinning them in the stow position.

Do the straps need to be outwards like that? I was just thinking of screwing the dog screw into the ground immediately beside of the awning support pole.

Don't suppose it makes any difference, but the tension load on the dirt screws will tend to pull the screws out of the ground. They hold a lot better if placed out about 5'-10' where the load on the screws is at an angle. Vertical load on screw is about 70% if strap is 45° to pole as opposed to being parallel to pole (cos 45°= .707).
Your choice of course.

I usually set the screws out about 8' and screw them into the ground until only the handle is showing and hook the bright orange ratchet straps to the handle.

Okay, duty dummy here.

What is the proper/best paint to use on the new PVC Supports?

Lacquer or enamel? Prime first? Brand?

I assume (you know what that means) that I use a spray paint.

Not Turbs, but don't think it will not work due to the temp to bake it.

BTW, OC N T FAB N CHASSIS still has 7 sets in production & 2 sets ready to ship. If anyone wants a set for a motorhome, let me know and we will make the inner poles longer.
