BTW, these supports remove the load on the arms, pull on the ends of the tubes themselfs and are adjustable to allow tilting for rain run off. My profile albums show how they work.

ahhhh, why the poles to hold the awning up? I thought the idea behind these outomatic awnings was for when it rains they will tip down in one corner or the other and let the rain flow off before it collapses. I have ropes to the ground on mine so it cant blow up and over but can tip down, works great- rain or shine or wind.

These allow the awning to be tipped for run off and locked down so they don't flop in the wind and put load on the arms. In fact they take the load completely off the arms. Had them deployed for 3 days and nights in 15-25mph wind & rain in FL and the awning material fluttered very little and the arms never moved.

The adjustable arms are not tightened, but left loose.

I bought the tie downs that have the anchor that screws in the ground and rope goes up and around ends of the awning, (awning tie down set).

I bought one of these kits from Neil and here is my kit review:

The kit I bought from Neil arrived in a long shipping tube and contained the upper and lower brackets; two locking clips (used to secure the poles for travel and to adjust the height of the poles during use); two cross bolts for the upper bracket to pole connection; and the two all aluminum poles.

The poles were well made and appear very sturdy (certainly up to the job being asked of them) and the welds were clean and very professional. They are made in such a way as to prevent them from coming apart. The inner tube is retained by a sleeve welded into the top of the outer tube. The bottom of the outer tube has a "foot" welded to a plug and is pop riveted to the outer tube.

The only "work" I had to do to install them (about 1 hour for me) was to remove the upper arm hold down screw; put the upper bracket in place and replace the screw.

The lower bracket requires drilling two holes in each arm about 4.5 inches (I used) from the bottom of the arm. I used a 13/64th bit which fit my 3/16th "LONG" pop rivets (I used a washer on the back).

Also, since my 5th wheel camper has the awning mounted lower than Neil's pre drilled holes, I had to add 7 "through pin" 1/4 inch holes spaced 1.5 inches apart in the smaller inner pole to allow a lower height when setting up.

Done!

All in all a painless mod and I can't wait to try it out camping. I still need to buy two lightweight ratcheting tie down straps and two dirt screws to make it complete.
