24R Water Filter Tight Quarters

First time replacement of the water filter and I finally got the bugger out, but now it is nearly impossible to get back in. The carpet on the back side presses against the housing and the cabinet door side is snug against the housing. The canister containing the filter will not fit back up into the opening to mate with the top of the housing. The canister diameter is larger than the housing diameter. Any tricks to offer? (need to explain the picture - The picture was taken from the floor looking up to the housing. The carpet is on the wall adjacent to the water tank under the bed. The inside of the cabinet door is on the left.)

I can see the housing is distorted by being compressed in between the structure where it is mounted! I would try to move the housing, otherwise you won't be able to fit the round filter into an oblong hole.

Water Filter Housing Modification

I decided to make some room in the water filter compartment by removing the shag style carpet on the back wall. I've included pictures to demonstrate. Once the carpet was removed I gained about a 1/4 inch (pic-2). That was enough. I added a slick piece of plastic (pic-3) to help slip the filter canister up to mate with the housing. [note that pics 3 and 4 are shot with a mirror and therefore look upside down] It still is difficult given the location and close quarters outside the compartment (pic-4), but it is actually possible to replace the filter now, shown in pic-5.
