A/C Thermostat Settings

When we went to the Frog Rally in Tampa two weeks ago, we bought books written by a gentleman whose seminar we attended. One book on RV appliances detailed his recommendation as to how to set the thermostat when using the RV A/C. He said when using the 'Cool' mode, to never use the 'Auto' fan speed...to use High or Low instead; as it takes more electricity to repeatedly start the fan than it does to keep it running. In fact, he said he uses only the 'High' fan setting when running his RV A/C, because he says the faster fan speed helps move the condensate out of the evaporator fins and lessens the possibility of it freezing up.
We tried this scenario last week when camping in the Keys. Our motorhome stayed perfectly cool. The one drawback is that the A/C is noisy and gets annoying after a while. Once it cools off outside, we are anxious to open up the windows and turn on the Fantastic Fan!

Wondering who might have any input on A/C usage....

When set to AUTO the fan will initially run at high speed. When the temp gets to within about 3 to 4 degrees of the thermostat setting the fan will revert to low speed ( pretty quiet) automatically. Had a freeze up once (think it was) but the ac only stopped for about 20 seconds and then continued on its merry way.

Thanks! So, I want to understand.......when set to AUTO the fan speed reverts down to Low, but then it will cycle on/off when the temp reaches the set point, similar to home A/C, correct? I suppose that when the outside temp is very hot, the RV A/C will cycle on/off constantly, so perhaps that's when leaving the fan on High or Low may be preferred??

Yes, that is correct. I just set mine to auto and leave it there. It's going to run on hi or low as applicable as I said. Yes, you can set the fan to a preferred setting, other than auto if you wish to and it will still cycle on and off at the fan speed setting you select. If on low speed setting though the ac may run continuously if very hot outside. Of course that may not be a bad thing for quieter times.
