This is a possibility but it may be a catch-22:
The connector to the awning motor may be loose! but to get at it the awning must be extended somewhat...

and this from the installation manual:

Note: An inline 15 amp fuse (installer supplied) should
be installed between the rocker switch and the 12 VDC
power source on the positive (red) wire.
