Eternabond is great to have on hand. A fellow camper had his awning begin to rip at the attachment to the roller. I had some Eternabond on hand from repairing an EPDM roof on my former RV. We used some of the tape to repair the rip, taping the vinyl awning material to the metal roller. I ran into him 3 years later and it was still in place, holding strong.
One thing to remember: It sticks where you put it, so there is no "do-over". You are not able to remove it once it contacts another surface.

I like this idea. I use the plastic gutter approach when home and over winter.
