Must be an obstruction. Mine works just fine.

Some people have run into check valves that have been installed backwards.

For the flush to work the tank drain valve needs to be open...

The tank is vented so the drain valve shouldn't have to be open.
They normally put a warning sticker on the black flush because if you fill the tank from it there is a possibility of waste backing up from the toilet.

Don't trust that the tank's vent will prevent any issues. Here's a story (mine) about how bad things can get running the black flush with the dump valves closed:

It's ok to leave the valve closed AS LONG AS YOU STAY RIGHT THERE and don't let the tank get full and bulge the tank. I limit myself to 5 minutes MAX before opening the valve. No need to take a chance regardless of the tanks being vented.

I do the same, dump the tank then close the valve and run the black flush for a few minutes then dump again. I'll do it a few times if there is no one behind me at the dump station.
If the tank fills under pressure, its going to find a way out and then "stuff" happens.

Also, remember to blow that fitting clear with air, as part of your winterizing procedure. Sometimes water gets trapped in the check valve and causes premature failure.

where is the check valve?
i just tore the compartment apart and can't find it... hose runs up into a 3" black pipe with all the other hoses - no sign of any valve on the black tank flush line. is it on the tank itself? photo, please!

Right at the hose connection.
Or should I say just behind it.

Carefully take out the washer with screen and you'll fund the check valve pictured below. You might try pushing in the white piece in the middle to see if it's stuck. Just stand off to the side when you do.

that is absolutely not on my solera. i removed those three screws you see in the photo, then the clip behind. i reached behind the panel and removed the compression nut. i held the hose fitting in my hand, peeked through it, and it is a clear hole... no check valve. i examined the hose, and traced it up into the 3" pipe, looking for an inline check. there is nothing in the compartment... and yet water will not enter the black tank. the mystery continues....

Same situation in my motorhome. It used to work. I chalk it up to something (paper) getting dried on the nozzle inside the tank.
