I would use 180 grit sand paper first it's going to be more effective especially if there is any sort of pitting it's a good tool for leveling it out. If you have a Napa Auto parts by you they will have 180 grit sand paper in pack of 6 and the duplicolor bed liner.

Use 1600 grit wet/dry with water and then go to 2000 grit wet/dry. Worked on mine 2 yrs ago and now it's time to do it again. If it is not stainless, just buy a new one and make sure it is stainless even tho' they are pricey.

You can also get Chrome exhaust pipe protectors covers on Ebay/Amazon as a last resort for your generator exhaust too. "Good Luck!"

I deliver cab and chassis to FR and I am not surprised at all . just know that Freightliner and Ford use cheep junk to build with.It doesn't matter if they are built in the USA or Mexico most all he parts are made in Mexico.

Wow, I thought I was the only one!!

Mine looked as bad or worse. We're the first owners and don't want to be the last!

I gave it a light steel brushing, followed by light sanding and rubbing down with a solvent. Eastwood makes a product called "Rust Encapsulator" which I happened to have on hand but Rustoleum makes a similar product. It neutralizes oxidation and becomes a primer for paint. I will always remember the first commandment of paint ... Paint only sticks to primer, primer sticks to the surface.

What you see is several hundred miles after applying; a couple of months and maybe 10 inches of exposure to Pacific Northwest rain and damp. Seems to hold up well.

PS: The black stripe is a shadow line from the ladder.

My 2011 came with straight metal pipe and I added a Gibson stainless curve down tip I got on amazon. Has held up well so far.
