Def warnings

Just had a new warning come on , the only thing we can figure out is the def is contaminated or fouled. Notice the little symbol above the wrench, we don't know what that represents!! The 500 stays on for a few minutes , then is gone. The MH has 10,000 miles on it has been serviced once, and we've always kept the def tank filled after every 2500 miles. Anyone seen this before?
Any comments appreciated!!

I'm not sure but it looks like a maintenance counter to me. Is the number 500 always the number that comes up? I wonder if the number reduces down every 100 miles. If so then I'd have to say it's counting down to a maintenance on something.

I guessing it's saying you have less than 500 mile for a scheduled maintenance. Try to reset your schedule and see if it goes away.

That looks like the generator service message. The 2nd service is at 500 hours I believe. Not at my unit presently, so I can't check. Good luck!

I am probably wrong, as I see it says Mi and not Hr.

Would not think generator warning would be on dash.

Yes it's not the generator, we did have the engine serviced at 7500 miles, don't know if they didn't reset it then.
The wife searches intently though the manual and the only thing we can find is that the def is contaminated or defective and to take it into the shop. Also says it is a countdown and then will go into 20 starts left before it shuts down.

Will be taking back to Mercedes next week I guess. Just like to get second opinions in case it's something simple.

Just curious, do you buy DEF from a pump or Jugs? I've always used from the jugs in my Duramax.

I've always bought the jugs. If the container filled it before being empty just threw away what was left! Didn't try to store A partial container.

This looks like the maintenance counter to me. When you had it serviced before it was due (10k interval) they did not reset the counter.

DEF is only a light.

Don't know. It is in the service manual not the user manual.

Don't foget that the DEF has a limited shelf life, I believe it is 6 months.
If the DEF sits in the tank for too long, it has to be pumped out, and the system probably flushed.
DEF is simply one of the dumbest ideas ever.

How to reset service indicator light in Mercedes Benz Sprinter for maintenance - YouTube Try this one. Also remember that even thou the Solera is a 2013 the Sprinter is probably a 2011 or 12

Took the Solera in to the shop today, the warning light was just the service engine. Didn't get properly reset when I had the oil changed. Free fix and driving carefree again!

Not quite true... I pulled this from another forum where a guy got this info from AirGas giving DEFs life expectancy at various temperatures . Depending on where you live and how much you drive you may not want to fill the def tank.
