Disable Daytime Running Lamps

Sprintboy, I got an email back from our local MB dealers. I'm not sure why anyone would be concerned about violating MB policy. He sent me page 185 of the owners manual and it talks about it.

For some reason my thumbnails are not going full size when you click them. Let me try this.

not sure who you are replying to but your reply is the only post showing up in this thread, so none of us have a clue what your talking about.

My reply was to Sprintboy, noted. It was to reply to a private message but it does not let me send pictures (that I could see). It was about Disabling Daytime Running Lights, on Solera. This the subject, posted in a Solera forum.

I pasted the link to this in a private message to him.

I was never on that thread. All his questions came to me via PM. Now that I see that I can always repost over there.

So, if you can turn off your DRL It raises a couple questions. 1. By turning (by program) them off, what position does the dash control have to be in to then turn them on at night. Currently, I move the dash control one click to the right to manually turn them off now. 2. So what position does that switch need to be in to turn them on. Am I understanding this right?

I'm not sure I'm understanding it. If you can turn them off by clicking them over...why is Sprinterboy so worried about disabling them. He is saying they're on all the time, can't turn them off.

Brian, on the 2012's. They come on when you start the vehicle. If you rotate the dash light switch one position to the right, they, the low beams I believe is whats lit, turn off. But, if you switch the vehicle ignition off, and forget to return the switch to the verticle position (one click left), the chimes ring, until you return the switch to the verticle position.

Now I'm wondering, does following the procedure you posted from the MB manual put the owner back in control of his vehicle, "like the old days"? Gosh, one could only hope to be in charge of their own destiny. Let me sit a while and ponder that feeling. Ahhh!

I can answer that - it does not. MB is still in control, but the inaccurate owners manual does give the illusion of control.

Tried procedure - 2012 Solera "S" - does not work. I think Mercedes locked out this option on North American vehicles.

I do know that MB service can do a programming change and turn the auto DRL program off, and put you back in control. But they will charge you, unless you can talk them into it during a service visit.
