Dometic fridge FYI

My Solera was parked on a 20 degree tilt in the drive way and the Dometic fridge would not get cold! Parked on the flat and it was fine. Probably RV 101.

It might be "RV 101"- but with RV's there are 1000 things you need to know; and the dealer will only have time to show you 42 of them.

I'm just glad I lurked here for a few months before picking up my trailer.

Yep, needs to be reasonably level to get the refrigerator to working properly.

About 5 to 6 degrees off is all they will tolerate and still function. Get you a center bubble and put in the fridge for easy check.

I've never had an RV with a fridge and I'm wondering how do they work while your traveling down the road if they need to be level? I have a 2012 Solera on order due in any time.

The constant movement keeps the liquid from pooling and allows it to circulate.

They work off of propane while traveling.
As stated before movement keeps the fluids moving so that it works properly while moving down the hi way.

Is it a myth that if you operate your camper fridge on too much of a tilt, you will actually ruin it? Or is that true?

From the manual:
HOW TO START THE REFRIGERATOR
Leveling
In the boiler, ammonia vapor is distilled from an
ammonia-water mixture and carried to the finned condenser,
where it liquifies. The liquid flows to the
evaporator, where it creates cold by evaporating into a
circulating flow of hydrogen gas. If the evaporator coil is
not level the liquid readily accumulates, forming pockets
which can impair the gas curculation or even block it, in
which case, of course, the cooling will stop.
When the recreational vehicle is stationary it must be
leveled to be comfortable to live in. If the refrigerator is
properly installed, the freezer shelf parallel to the floor,
the refrigerator will then also perform properly. A bubble
level should be placed on the freezer shelf. When the
vehicle is in tow, the continuous rolling and pitching
movement will not affect the refrigerator as long as the
movement passes either side of level, but when the trailer
is temporarily parked this sensitivity of the refrigerator
should be remembered. So once more, before you start
the refrigerator make sure the recreational vehicle is
leveled to be comfortable to live in.
