Extended Waranty

Picking up camper Friday. Trying to decide if it is worth paying 40 bucks more a month for extended waranty? I usually never buy these.

If your dealer is very far away, and you are handy with your own repairs, I wouldn't. Forrest River offers a second year warranty for around $200 I think, may be less. Do a search on here. $480 a year seems too high. Most of your appliances, aka high dollar items, have a 3 year warranty from the manufacturer. leaks and plumbing is about all you would be getting, and all the dealer would do is repair, just like you would.

On a travel trailer I say skip the extended warranty if you are handy and get the 2nd year warranty thru Forest River.

My father never used to get extended warranties either until he bought a Motor Home and he has had to use it a few times and it has paid for itself.

on a Brand New Unit I dont know if I would cause at the least it will be covered under the first year for sure.

Even if I hadn't gone that way myself; $40 per month sounds high. They wanted $1600 here for an additional 5 years; so that works out to $27 per month.

I guess it also depends on what you are buying; may be worth it on a motorhome if it covers everything. It's one thing for those of us with $10-30K trailers to say to decline it; it's quite another with a $125K vehicle.

Agree - if it's a trailer I would pass on the price they are asking, if it is a Motorhome, it sounds like a good deal.

waste of money. most of the expensive things, like fridge, a/c, furnace, converter and so on, have their own separate manufacturer's warranty. and they are usually longer than 2 years.
the rubber roof has a 12 year warranty, for example.

Oh I should have post that this unit is used. It is a 2011 model. An older couple bought it and only drove it less than 1500 miles and decided it was to small. I got it for what I thing is a great price. I looks like new. The also install a 42" TV in the front and also the side cameras. It does have the waranty from Freightliner. Just no waranty on the box. The waranty he told me about cover everything but water damage. He figured it would around 40 bucks. He is suppose to let me know Friday.

tough call on that one - since it is considered second hand and have no warranty from Forest River I would look into some sort of a warranty if it was me - I will ask my father where they purchased their warranty from - he has a 2008 40 footer diesel pusher and has a delaminated slide out which is getting fixed right now - cost him $500 deductable and the rest is being picked up by the warranty so on some things it is worth it.
