I had heard (somewhere) that Ford plans to continue selling the 'E' series cutaway chassis through the end of this decade. I searched Wikipedia and found this:

"While the van variant of the E-Series stopped production after the 2014 model year due to poor sales, the stripped chassis and cutaway models continue to be produced for 2015 and will be built "until the end of the decade" due to record sales."

I don't know if that means the transit cutaway will continue with lower gvwr as it is now, or if Ford's plans may change, etc. This seems to indicate that larger Class C's will be relying on E series for another 4-5 years.
