MPG Solera S

Just bought a 2013 Solera S, assuming I drive at 60-65, with very low load and it has 10,000 miles on it - what are best guess on mpg? Also assume same but pulling 3,200 car, what are best guess on mpg. Thanks.

My 2012 Solera has averaged 14+ mpg since purchased. Never towed a vehicle, so have no data for you on that. What does amaze me is that, driving in the mountains, only lowers the mpg about 1 mile per gallon on average. I'm impressed with MB engineering, considering the unit GVW approaches 10k pounds.

We get between 12.5 and 13.5 on ours. Not great, but livable. I'm hoping the mpg will improve the older it gets. Have 4700 miles on it right now. However, it is a pleasure to drive, so if the mpg doesn't improve, we will deal with it!

it amazes me that people buy rv's(all kinds of them) then obsess over fuel mileage.

big fat rv's with high ceilings and wide bodys with big air resistance are never going to get great mileage.

no matter what the engine.

diesels get somewhat better but on a cost basis gas/diesel probably are equal

but both kinds get lousy mileage.

We get normally 14 to 16 mpg driving in CA.

Towing our Samurai we still get 13 to 14 mpg which I consider pretty good. Towing in CA limits speed to 55mph....

Overall the mileage is pretty good for the size and even when towing it pulls very well over hills. The engine and transmission combo is extremely well matched. Always amazed when passing everything going uphill :-)

My 2012 MS gets approx. 14 at 55mph and 11 at 70mph in flat terrain. Towing things, hilly terrain and the direction of the wind can change those numbers by a couple of mpg.

The long term average mpg on my 2009 Solera (2008 cab/chasis) is 14.5 mpg. This was calculated by dividing total miles (17640) by total gallons used (1215). This included a mix of approx. 50% trailering (1400 lbs. trailer and M/C) and 50% no trailer. The best tank was 16.3 mpg and the worst was 11.0 mpg. We try to keep the speed around 60 - 62 mph on the highway. Most of the miles were accumulated during two cross country trips (MD to MT and MD to CA) which of course includes both plains and Rockies.

Just filled up. First mileage check results were 14.2 mpg. Odometer is 888. Pleasantly surprised, since from most of the reading I've done, mileage doesn't begin to peak until a few thousand are on the clock. This was 94% highway miles, and driving at a fairly constant 60mph. This represents a 50% improvement over the old pusher. Had some 15mph crosswinds and handling wasn't too bad - overall handling is sweet. All in all, I'm very pleased.

I am planning on using the Solera to tow a light wieght aluminum trailer with 4 dirt bikes. I'm hoping it won't effect the mileage to much but I'm sure it will be better than my truck/toyhauler at 9 mpg.

Just returned from Agua Caliente Park to Escondido in Solera 24R. Not much freeway, mostly back roads and some twisties. Averaged 13.9 mpg. The odometer just turned 2800 miles. I am happy with the mpg.

We got 12-14 on our 24S last summer not towing anything. This year we're towing a small car with dolly so we'll see what happens.

How often do most of you stop to fill up? Can you get 400 miles out a tank?

With a 26 gal fuel tank, assuming 15mpg, you'd only get 390 miles. Some may get better mileage, but I'd still not push it much past 350miles. Never know where the next Diesel fuel stop is! Haven't taken a long trip yet, but I plan on a fillup at around 300 miles

Like wise on the 200 miles I've gone up to 250 and am still reading about a 1/3 tank.

Your wife is a smart woman. That is a good distance to stop and get up to move around and reestablish circulation. Thank her as she is looking out for your health as well.

Are there auxiliary tanks available for the Sprinter chassis?
