The Valvoline met spec 229.51. Trying again is to reset the miles to the next service. I seem to remember some problem about having to replace some other part when you do the filter or it can come apart and get pulled into the injectors or some such?

Yeah, your right. There is a coupling that fits over the turbo intake housing (orange in color) that absolutely should be changed, as it has a possibility (slight) of hardening and getting injested into the turbo impeller. But really, once you see the set up, it's stupid simple to switch it out. The purpose of the sleeve couping is to get a tight fit from the air intake tube onto the intake housing of the turbo.

[QUOTE=Still Kickin;972277. Cost of filter from Freightliner about $70 bucks, MB I hear charges well over $375.[/QUOTE]
Had to get an oil change and fuel filter change done while on a 6000 mile trip and passing 20000......Freightliner in Salt Lake charged me 151.50 for the filter.
But overall the bill was reasonable - total 347.99.
Filter 11.25$
13Q oil 78$
Fuel Filter 151.50
Labor 75$
Tax 21.99
shop Supplies 10.25$
No appointment, waiting time about 1 hour and very friendly people!

NAPA also has the Mann OEM oil filter for about $14. That's a little more than non-OEM filters, but what's $5 or so?
With the oil on sale now, I just got my next oil change covered for under $100. What a deal!!!

I'll tackle that soon myself, as it's not that difficult, but I had the luxury of helping a friend, who did it before. Cost of filter from Freightliner about $70 bucks, MB I hear charges well over $375. Time wise took about 1 1/2 hrs. Part of the time is to swap out the WIF sensor from the spent to the new filter. That was, in my view the most difficult step. But, when, like I said, get to see it first, it all makes sense.
STILL KICKIN-Is this video close to changing the fuel filter below the intake?

You are correct sir. What MB has done is in conjunction with Mobil is, agree to recommend that synthetic, since the previous one, 5w40 is no longer distributed in the US. Also, making the new one suitable for gasoline engines, which allows mobil to sell more of it. The previous oil had the moniker "formula M" meaning for Mercedes (diesel). You can just bet how much of that stuff got sold after spending oodles of formulation and testing with MB engineers. So, marketers step in and wella, the magic wand is waived, and we have a new recommended oil, broader use, different viscosity, etc. all is good, MAYBE. Just sayin'

FYI, there are 2 different fuel filters based on VIN and SA code. Parts catalog states "the correct filter must be verified at the vehicle". One filter sensor uses a 3 pin connector and the updated uses a 5 pin connector.

CaptDan, I couldn't open the video, but it's my system. It did say it was for 2002-06 models on the title. The filter is located about center engine on top. When you partialy remove the air intake (Blk plastic) housing and swing it out of the way, you get a much better view. You will need one specialty tool called a; Collar Hose Clamp Pliers Clic and Clic-R Type. Got mine on ebay for around $13 bucks. There was a guy who posted pics in Sprinter Forum with his narative, showing the steps. Hope that helps.

Heck, after you read that oil description, I'd vote for it if it was running for office even. I know we can't do anything about the viscosity change, so only time will tell. It's like a politician, promises, promises, then we get to see the performance.

Does any one have the Mann oil and fuel filter part numbers for a 2015 chassis? I am getting conflicting numbers with an online search.
