on/off switch for holding tank heaters
Was under my 2015 24R installing Hellwig sway bar. Noticed heating pad on black and grey water tanks, Never mentioned on my walk thru last year when purchased. Is there a switch for these? Do they run on 12 volt or 120 v or both?
Will they drain batteries boondocking in cold weather?

They should have switch to turn them on inside. They are on there own thermostat. Should come on at 40 degrees and off at 60 degrees. Most are 12v and will eat your battery up boondocking.

The switch is located in the bank of switches with your water pump and others. Should be labeled Poler or Arctic. I do believe it is 12 volt. Not sure of the power draw.
Here is a thread with a little more info.

Tank heaters draw 6-7 amps. As mentioned, enough to drain a battery quickly if on for any length of time.

My tank heater switch is the one in this pic with the red light in it (when ON). It is NOT labeled in my Wildcat.

Is the temp of the tanks below 40 or so degrees?

Shore power will allow/cause your converter to produce 12v and charge your battery... no draw-down in that case.

As was mentioned earlier, the tank heaters have their own thermostat. In moderately cold weather, the furnace keeps my storage tanks warm enough so that the tank heaters don’t operate, hence, no current draw from them under those conditions. However, when traveling without the furnace running, the tank heaters provide some warmth to the tanks and help prevent freezing.
I turn off my tank heaters while boondocking and only use them while traveling, where my TV supplies 12V to keep my battery charged. Stops for lunch, etc., are fine as the battery will keep the tank heaters running and recharged when I get moving again.

speaking specifically for my F.R. 24S Class C on Sprinter chassis
running the heating system ( propane, that is, not the overhead ) keeps the sewer hookup compartment warmed. Since the valve ends of the black & grey tanks are there, they and the fluids in them are warmed, and therefore the tanks.
I have an indoor/outdoor weather station mounted in the coach, with the outdoor temp sensor mounted in the sewer hookup compartment.
on a night when the Sprinter cab thermometer showed an outdoor temp of 24 F, and I was heating the interior to 55 F, the sewer hookup compartment sender was showing 45 F

Is your digital readout meter showing current (amperage), or potential (voltage). I would not expect you to see a significant voltage drop when tank heaters are turned on - at least as long as your battery is well charged. An amperage meter will show a significant draw when the heaters are turned on - as long as they are functioning.

Not absolutely certain...but for the 24R it should be the F-9 fuse in the Battery Control Center. The BCC is by the steps leading into the coach. The F-9 fuse is next to the top, on the right side of the fuse panel, with a violet wire coming in next to it. On my coach, it's a 20 amp fuse.
