Overheating

Since there is no temp gauge do solera owners turn off their ac when going up a grade on a warm day?
With my tundra 4x4 the temp never changed even on extremely hot days going up steep grades with the air blasting
With no temp gauge just not sure if we should suffer up grades to avoid overheating

Do you have an idiot light that comes on if it starts to overheat?

Could always do an aftermarket temp gauge. They have gauge pods for the A-pillar and underdash mounts. If you go that route, might as well get a trans temp gauge, too.

There is a light
Just don't want to get to that point and wondered what other solera owners experienced
Running air up a grade
Plan to get computer that plugs into Mercedes port

Never bothers me. Wen't over passes in CO with the cruise set to 65mph and no problems.

Most gauges in cars are NOT linear and operate like an idiot light anyways. Manufacturers got sick of the customers complaining that temps move up - so they just let the needle sit until a tad before it is overheating.

In my opinion on new vehicles there is no reason it should overheat just because the air is on no matter how your driving it. If it does you probably have a thermostat problem or low coolant. I have driven our Sunseeker 500 miles to a race track in 100 degree temps pulling a trailer with the AC on the whole trip, i don't even shut it off at fuel stops, and when we get there I leave it run for another half hour while we set up and get the coach air to take over and it has never overheated.

We were out in July's heat wave temp's in the 100's with A/C going all the time. Never had a problem.

I'll 2nd that! Iv'e been in uphill, hot conditions and the coach seems to do remarkable well. I did have the DEF light come at that time and I thought it was overheating, but no! The def symbol looks a little like the temp. Just a heads up.

YA that DEF light is more troublesome than anything else I wish there was a way to check the DEF fluid level.

No overheating issues in 100 degree plus heat, hills, AC running. I believe I am using about 1 gallon of DEF in 2100 +/- miles. On my 2012 the first level DEF warning light came on at 2 gallons down - after ~4200 miles.

Thank u for info
I wondered how much def fluid is used
Salesman said 1 gallon every 2 tankfuls
And any station that sells diesel sells the fluid
And it costs 7.50 per gallon

The DEF tank holds about 2 gallons, my first fillup came at about 2500 miles, so I'm not that sure about adding a gallon every 2 fillup's. but it's a good idea to have some in case it's needed in the middle of no where.

Our first and only time the DEF light came on was at 8600 miles and I filled 5 gallons in the tank of our 2011...

You maybe right about that, come to think about it when I added DEF last time the tank wasn't empty and I filled it with 2 gallons then.

Believe, starting with the 2012? models, the DEF tank was made smaller and moved, with filler now under the hood, freeing a storage compartment.

With regard to the original question about overheating, if I was concerned I would install a Scanguage - lots of info on this forum.
