Pin holes in awning

We are out for the third short trip in our 2015 Forester MBS. When we extended the awning, we noticed three small pinholes.
I got out the Dometic manual, and it states: "To repair a pinhole, or if a spot of coating flakes off from the top layer of vinyl fabric: a. Apply a very small dab of VLP (Vinyl Liquid Patch) on tip of cotton swab. b. Gently roll cotton swab around pinhole. The VLP will melt the coating (on fabric) and that will quickly fill in pinhole and blend with all colored vinyls."

Anyone have similar experience?

Not sure why you're not having this dealt with as a warranty issue.

You listed you rig as a 2015 model. It's real easy to replace an entire awning if you know what you're doing............I saw it done within 20 minutes at the FROG rally a couple of years ago.

I'm sure that "fix" was written for awning material on or near its' last leg of useful life. Your awning if maintained properly, would last many years. Because you see holes in the fabric, and it "new", file a warranty claim, as it sounds like a material defect during manufacture, and will only lead to premature wear and shorten the useful life. IMO

I have repaired pinholes in a awning before. Most RV dealers sell a kit to make the repair. It is easy peasy, no problem. You will have to get above the awning, I did it by laying on the rooftop. However if its a 2015 I would take it to the local dealer and see if and when they can replace it.

my 2011 awning was replaced in Goshen at the last frog ralleye at no charge as it was deemed defective even tho 2 years out of warranty the Goshen ralleye is a great place to get issues resolved by the folks that built it they seem to have more pride in their units than the folks that sell em do

Go to the Goshen rally and get it replaced free.

I have a hole about the size of a fried burger. Mice seemed to do this over the winter. Purchased patching material same color as the vinyl with a tube of performix vlp vinyl/leather repair. Assume i cut patching to overlap hole and run a bead of vlp around between patch and material surrounding whole and just press it together. Does thus sound correct.? The directions actually dont cover this type of issues

All of my current and previous camper's have had pin holes damage caused by exposure to UV and elements.

To prevent awning damage, every new camper I purchase gets a 6 inch strip of eternabond tape installed on exposed awning when it is rolled up. Works perfectly and so far doing a great job prevent damage from wind, sun, and road debris. UV radiation is intense here in Colorado and quickly damages stuff.
