Puzzling message on the odometer screen

We have a 2013 Solera 24R. Love it. There is one puzzle that eludes us. The display for fuel / mileage etc has, for a few months, been displaying a day number (currently 139) which does go up by one day every day (see pic). When we drive, the panel beeps and flashes the number every half hour or so, to remind us of our apparent negligence in not dealing with it, whatever it is. I do see a one spanner icon, plus a dash symbol which I have been interpreting as a negative sign, thus minus 139 d today, -140d tomorrow and so on.

This appeared on our last trip ~3 months ago, at around -40d, out of the blue, and continues to haunt us. We drove 2,000 miles on the trip and nothing bad happened, except the intermittent beeping and a sinking feeling that we we not being good stewards of our little ship. I can find nothing anywhere as to what this means, and an home OBD scan comes up clean. We have <8,000 miles on the clock, and I believe the first service is due around 10,000 miles, so a reminder for a service does not seem right- and I think that two spanner icons are the keys for this.

Anyone else had this? I haven't yet taken it in to the Sprinter folks to have my wallet cleaned and have some gibberish to be pronounced as to why I am a dope.

It could be telling you that the additive for the diesel fuel is out if is required for your vehicle. Depending on time between oil changes which I would think would be around 7500 miles. LaterRJD

10,000 miles between oil changes on a diesel seems a bit long.

That is telling you how many days you are past service being due. (Days past one year)

Per MB:

2014 and up Sprinter Service Schedule now at 15,000 miles or once per year.

2013 and older is 10,000 or once per year

Had a 2011 24s with 7500 miles showing on odometer and the very same symbols you see came up. If you will look in the owners' manuals you will see the meaning of the symbols. MB's apparently take the date or miles driven into consideration and remind you of oil change (that's what this is). Since my rig was over a year old but only had 7500 miles, it thought that the engine oil should be changed, even tho it didn't have 10k miles. My best advice is to look thru owners' literature (several small books) and you will see what I am saying...(hate to belabor this..LOL_)
As I recall, the number showing is the number days past due scheduled oil change (maintanance)...How long you had your rig?

MB's concern is the degradation of motor oil past a year of use. If you read on synthetics, they are superior to conventional motor oils in longevity, so you shouldn't have a problem.

If the vehicle is telling you to change the oil, I'd go ahead and do it. Sounds like it's still under warranty...if you have an issue with the engine that should be covered, and the computer shows that you have not been maintaining the vehicle according to the manufacturers minimum requirements (in this case, time between services), the manufacturer (not the dealer) can deny the claim. IMHO it's worth the price of an oil & filter change to head off that potential headache....

Just talked with Mercedes-Benz about mine it was 16 days showing they indicated to me that it was a servicing request and that you're 16 days for 138 days over your first servicing.

X2. You can change the oil yourself and use the reset procedure to clear the alert. Important you keep good records and receipts to maintain warranty.
