Remove sliding bedroom door in 24R

I do not see us using the wood sliding bedroom door in our 2014 24R. Has anyone removed it? Seems to be sturdy so I assume weigh saving would be nice. Any issues with removal or reinstall it?

I pulled ours off for the same reasons you stated. Comes off easily. The door hangs from pins that slide in the track. The pins are locked by a small cam arm in the brackets mounted on top of the door. 22000 miles and many months of traveling haven't missed the door yet.

I removed mine. I replaced it with a curtain. I bought a couple of the runners that fit in the track in the ceiling and attached the curtain to them - five in total...I think.

It's a hollow core door, so the weight savings isn't all that much. Much more weight savings when replacing the glass shower door...

Ours came with a shower curtain not a shower door. Not sure if that is the way it came from the factory or if the PO changed it out.

Another reason I wanted to remove the sliding door was to give just a bit more room in the bedroom. Not much but it seems like you should feel the difference especially with the slide in.

Removed mine for easier access to bed and a little weight savings. Where are the shower curtain replacements coming from?

Here's a link to a discussion on RV.net which includes pictures of the SEA shower curtain and contact info on how to order:

https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/f...print/true.cfm

This is the same unit that FR is using. As I recall, total cost was about $140 including shipping. It comes in both a "platinum" and an "oiled bronze" finish, but the oiled bronze seems to be pretty scarce.

I had some issues getting it installed correctly and they were very helpful. (The curtain is held closed by a couple of magnetic strips - one on the door, one on the jam, and I had problems getting them to line up correctly... And the installation instructions suck.)

Thanks Dave. I might wait on the shower door as we hardly use it but would really like to get rid of the weight.

Did the shower curtain come as an option or did my 24R's previous owner make the switch? How do I tell? I can not see any signs of a retrofit or marks of a door being in place. Seems odd that they would do that as everything else including all labels on the oven hoods are still in place. They had it for a year but drove it a total of 1,300 miles.

The 2013 24R came standard with a curtain. When I ordered my 2014 it was supposed to have a curtain but came with a glass door. I did not like the curtain and will stick with the added weight. I use the shower whenever using the RV.

I would say it weighs in at about 25 lbs or so. Which in the MBS's case does help.

Best thing ever did was remove it as it really opens up the bedroom and makes it easy to walk around the bed in the 24R.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I really do not see ever closing the door and the extra room and the saving of the LBS would help a bit also.

What ever works !!!
If I were to remove the door I would take very good care of it,,, so if & when I wanted to sell the unit I could replace it !!! I just don't see the weight or the fact it sticks out a couple of inches being a problem !!! We have never closed ours,,, but I see it getting used,,, maybe if some one wanted to take a nap,,, or go to bed while someone else wanted to watch TV,,, or what ever !!!

I agree I would store it safely to reinstall at a later date. I am thinking of putting a couple nice double coat hooks on the wall as there is not really anywhere to hang a towel or jacket. Might put them on the other side of the bedroom entry door under the TV mount.

I mounted a 1x4 where the door had been. I stained it to look like the other woodwork and mounted it pretty solidly into the wall supports rather than the 1/4 inch wall material. I mounted a towel bar and two robe hooks on it...

Very nice. I may copy your idea only use smaller coat hooks.

I had previously installed smaller hooks in various locations...but found that things liked to fall off of them. So I went with the larger hooks this time.

I used a couple of fairly large Command Hooks,,, on the other side under where the TV would mount !!! They hold up real well !!! Our Menards has a HUGE display of Commend stuff !!!

Dave how did you anchor the 1x4 to wall?

I drove screws, at 45 degree angles, at both ends of the board. The screws were angled toward the outside so they screwed into the same corner supports that the thin wall material is stapled into. (Definition of an RV? "Sticks and Staples"!)
