RV Insurance Flurry

We stacked up all the insurance mail solicitation we received over the last month or more. Includes roadside assistance, travel medical, Good Sam discounts, appliance insurance, and more.

Good Sam (GS) Travel Assist (medical emergency) and Roadside Assistance. Good Sam membership. We have separate roadside assistance as part of RV comprehensive and collision insurance. I don't know if that is an unnecessary cost - or redundancy may be good in the case of roadside assistance. I did not get any of the various extended warranties on appliances, etc.

GS Travel Assist + Roadside Assistance = $160
GS membership extension = $25 (not insurance)

I throw this out as a topic because it's easy to get trapped by insurance deals, and I don't have experience with Good Sam insurance. The Good Sam discounts definitely pay for the GS membership.

Anybody have experience with Good Sam roadside or Travel Assist insurance, and would you recommend it?

Thanks, Steve

I switched to Good Sam Insurance this year because it was about $200 cheaper than my previous carrier. I got some rock chips in my window and had no problem with the repair, they called a local window shop and had the window repaired that afternoon already. Personally I think most of these insurance companies are like the cell phone companies they all have the same policies it just depends on what you want to pay for and how you feel about the company your doing business with.

One thing on this, it seems that insurance co's charge higher premiums if your considered a full timer, as determined by number of days in a calendar year you use it. Or if you sold the homestead and its your principle place of abode. So, just mention that when giving your reply so we can weigh that.

I've found that cost can depend on if you store it on your property or a storage lot also.

Just a heads up. State Farm will surcharge you 25% on your overall liabilty (umbrella) policy if they know you move your RV to a different carrier. And, if thats not enough pain, they will take away your 5% discount for not having "all" vehicles with them. I tried to explain that the liability decreases when they don't have exposure for a loss in an RV, since its a seperate policy with a seperate insurance co. They just told me I don't understand. Its sad that they assume your a moron. So, guess I'll show them who is really smarter .
