RV Vent Cover Replacement
Just got through climbing on the roof to wash the roof (First Time) and found my two back smoke/tented vent covers cracked on it's edges and very brittle that need to be replaced. YouTube has some info on the subject-Just need to know model/make/size etc. and where to buy. Appreciate info where anyone replaced their RV vent covers on their Solera. Thanks again!!

I haven't had to replace the Solera vent covers yet, but I have replaced similar covers in the past.
The covers typically slide into a channel, with tabs at each end of the cover-side channel to lock them in place. I think this attachment mechanism is pretty standard, but it may well vary in some details. Beyond that, the cover lift mechanism has to properly engage a bar attached to the inside of the cover to lift the cover and hold it in place. These lift mechanisms are surprisingly non-standard so you need to be careful to ensure compatibility.
My suggestion would be to remove one of the existing covers and take it with you as you go shopping. I've found replacement covers at RV dealers, RV part suppliers (Camping World and other, local, suppliers) and at trailer supply stores.

I replaced mine and ordered the same Type that Camping World carries through Wal-Mart. Much better and stronger material. They are the 14 inch with slide type hinge. Easy change even though you must pull the inside frame to unhook the open mech.
This may be what you are looking for.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Camco-Vent...ingMethod=p13n
Check your hinge type.

BTW, the covers measure approx 16 X 15 1/2 to cover a 14 inch opening.
I forgot to mention that in my previous post.

The key is the hinge. There are several different styles, so be sure the hinges are correct. Good luck

Capt Dan,have you ever considered Max Air Covers over the entire Vent? You could leave your vents open while in storage to vent the Hot Fla. air.and they last way longer than the Thin Vent Lids! Youroo!!

As youroo said the Max Air Covers are a good investment. If you have a Fantastic Fan, they also have covers for that which allow for more air movement. I've got them on all three of my vents.

Great Idea!! How much longer do you think they will last? Also, it looks like it will increase the height of the RV a few more inches. A very good input, I will look into. Looks very easy to install as per youtube!! Thank You!!

The Fan-Tastic Ultra-Breeze Vent Covers I had installed, along with two Fantastic Fans, are lower than my A/C unit. See Here for the details. If you go with the Fan-Tastic covers make sure you get the optional bug screens that snap right in to the opening.

I added the Fan-tastic fan cover and what an easy DIY project. I reccomend using Dicor for the sealant. I did not get the screen option because the fan has a screen and I can clean the cover when I clean the roof. Screen not a bad idea though.

The Nice feature of Max Air Covers is NO Sealant Needed for Install! The Max Airs have a 5 year Warr.but very often last way longer, unless you hit a Tree limb! Youroo!!

Different mounting systems and each has pluses and minus. I like the no drill aspect of the Fantastic mount and the quick disconnect pins. I like the price of the Maxxair system .

Not sure of the Maxxair price...Camping World currently has the Fan-tastic Ultrabreeze covers on sale at $43.77. But they don't seem to have the bug screens...

For some reason my local CW puts the bug screens over with the metal bug screen for the water heater and furnace instead of with the covers....
