I replaced my residential shower head with a Delta massage unit last year and that has the trickle. I've since tossed the instructions, but I seem to recall the trickle was designed to prevent scalding water from coming out when you re-opened the valve. This may even be a plumbing code.
My oxygenics I installed this year has the same deal. My only complaint is the built in shut off works too easily. Just barely touch it while rinsing off and it shuts off. Like the unit much more than the original.
