Solera Check Light and MB Bulletin

Those of you who read my ongoing drama with my Solera begin flatbed trucked and $1,800 damage (see Towing a Solera) might recall my original reason for the warranty tow was an ongoing check light problem.

To recap, when the check light first came on MB warranty service found codes P14F200 and P11C300 which resulted in the replacement of the Air Mass Meter.

About 700 or 800 miles later the check light came on again and once again the same two codes came up -- P14F200 and P11C300

At this point MB warranty told me not to drive the motorhome. The MB service manager said they had received a MB service bulletin regarding these codes.

This is what he wrote on the service order.

FOUND CODES P14F200 AND P11C300-UPPER LIMIT VALUE OF COMPONENT B4/17 (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR). RESEARCHED AND FOUND
LI07.04-N-060527. PERFORMED LI BY MEANS OF REPLACING ELECTRICAL PINS AT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AFTER REMOVING UPPER ENGINE PANELING.

I've driven about 1,000 miles since the service and no check light, so hoping that is resolved.

IF I am camped somewhere that does not have cell phone access and I get an error code how can I determine it it is safe to drive it to a dealer.

I suppose I could drive my jeep to where I have cell phone access but that still leaves to problems:

1. What is the phone number to call to ask someone. Does anyone have a phone number that will be answered 24/7.

2. If they ask me to look at something I can not do that because I am not near the Solera at the time I am on the phone.

What is required, in order to prevent accidental driving when there is a catastrophic error code, is at least a list of DO NOT DRIVE error codes.

PopBeavers ~ Others may jump in, but here is my understanding.

When I got the second check light I was on my way back to Oregon from Arizona. I called the MB warranty folks (800-367-6372) who said if no other warning lights were on I was safe to drive it, but I might have to deal with limp mode at some point.

I returned to Oregon with no problems (actually the light turned off the next day). Soon after returning to Oregon the light came on, then went off, so I took it an RV service facility who ran the codes.

I called the service manager of the nearest MB Sprinter warranty facility, 125 miles away, and told him the codes. His biggest concern was that the RV would go into Limp Mode on the way to service facility (he was including the miles I had already driven).

I then called the MB warranty folks again, told them what they said and they arranged for the "tow".

The operators manual discusses check engine lights and limp mode.

My brother owns two large auto repair facilities and tells me check engine lights are both good and bad. Too often, he says, they come on for very minor reasons (e.g. fuel cap not on tightly). Just pay attention to the other lights and keep the warranty phone number in your contacts list I guess.

You did say "IF", right. What if Greece goes bankrupt and closes their banks! Oops, it just did. Sorry can't help you on the "what if", too much else going on. Odds are it won't. BTW. Not sure you want to hear it put that way, but unless you have a CEL code, can't see the point worrying about it.
