Solera Thermostat Upgrade

I don't know about the rest of you, but the thermostat in my '09 Solera is terrible. It's very difficult to get it to set and stay at a satisfactory temperature.

I've been reading a bit on the internet and I'm going to attempt the Hunter digital thermostat install. From what I can tell, this is a great improvement if it works!

I've ordered the thermostat; I'll keep you all updated.

Solera Thermostat Upgrad

Ilmor...which thermostat do you have in mind? I googled hunter digital thermostats and came up with several...some of which are battery powered and some are 24 volts (assuming they need separate wiring and power source??).

My Solera is 2011 but the thermostat doesn't keep room at constant temperature. It waits too long to start either cooling or heating.

NEW SUBJECT: Last week I took my mh to a machine shop and the man welded two pieces of steel (one was 3" channel and the other looked like a 1 X 3 inch hollow rectangular bar.) The 3" channel bar was about 6 inches long and the rectangular bar was 14" long. He welded the 3" bar to the end of the rectangular bar making it an L shaped configuration. He made 2 of these, one for each side. He then went under the mh and bored 2 holes in each spring hanger and 2 matching holes in the 3" bar. He attached the L shaped bracked to each spring hanger and the 14" bar is at the edge of the mh on each side. He also welded a 5/8" solid bar between the two pieces connected to each spring hanger. I can now put scissor jacks under each of the bars and it will stabilize my rig. The bars are just in front of the rear wheels. Nothing is welded to the MH/

Sorry, no pics (yet).

Solera thermostat upgrade

Have you bought/installed the thermostat to replace the original? Which one did you select if you have bought one?

I just got the thermostat in the mail. It is the same one as that described in this link;

Hunter 4299B Digital Thermostat RV Installation

I won't be able to get to this task for another 1 1/2 weeks, but I will repost here and let everyone know how it goes.

I've decided to postpone this new thermostat until I get more info. I was unable to make it work using the instructions above. The Dometic thermostat is different, plus I have a heat pump which I wasn't sure how to handle. Any experts on the forum that can assist?

I'm confused. Doesn't Solera's AC/heater system, which is really a heat pump, and not a heater, I say that because the specs listing that came with the unit says "heat pump". So this thermostat will or won't work?

Yes, there r a few confusing statements above, however if I do get mine working ill let you know!

The Solera has a heat pump in the roof (can heat and cool),as well as the propane-powered furnace heat. The one thermostat controls both systems.

That sub base will not work with a heat pump system, it will only work with a propane furnace and a plain old a/c not a heat pump !!!!!!
