Steps - how to stop them from extending

Is there any way to stop the steps from extending (24R 2013 latest model) or keep the steps in - retracted?
No matter what the door switch position is they always come out. Switch off - they stay extended, switch on - they move with the door. I would like to have them retracted with the door open, which according to the instructions should be possible...

It used to be done that way. My 02 Georgetown has the feature. I think there were injuries to people who fell out when the steps didn't extend when the door opened and the product liability vultures got well fed.

We're glad of the feature on the rare occasions we take the local ferries. The vehicles are packed in fairly close. Putting an 18" long dent in the side of someone's $75,000 Mercedes with the powered steps when you open the house door would not be a good idea.

The way my system works is, that, with the switch in one position, the steps follow the magnetic reed switch on the house door frame. In the other position they stay where they were when you set the switch.

I don't have wiring diagrams for my elderly rig, but you might be able to find them on line somewhere so you could re-wire yours.

He's a tried and proven method
With step switch on and master power on:
Close screen door only-steps will retract
Reach through screen door access and shut off main power
Hold screen door closed and then then close outer door and lock up.

On your return steps will extend the moment you open the door. It works if you can reach in and secure main power, otherwise your batteries will weaken.

If you exit from the cab rather than from the house the steps stay in.

Vince that is a good idea I should have thougt about that myself

But more important for me was whether there is a way to keep the steps retracted while the door is open....thats what the instructions call for but I could not do it. I was worried something else is wrong with the electrical wiring....

Thank you all!
