Tools to carry

What are some of the basic tools most of you carry? On my last MH I carried very little, small socket set, hammer, crescent wrench, duct tape of course. There were times I needed something small and had to find a WallyWorld or hardware store. Don't want to carry a full blown tool chest. What do you consider a must have?

baling wire... if you can't fix it with duct tape and baling wire, its not fixable

the wealthy will say, a cell phone and credit card.

Asking here might give you some ideas but really, the best way to answer this is to ask yourself a few questions. "what are you willing to fix? 'what is your skill level" and 'what insurance to you have'?

Then you will know what to pack.

I think it is also good to understand that leaks (water), loose screws and bolts (vibration) and electrical failures (again, vibration and movement during traveling) are probably the most common issues. So maybe a practical approach is to think of those and then again, what you feel you can / would repair to keep it down to what makes sense for you.

The best thing I suggest is (GOOD ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE INSURANCE). Anything you can't fix with the few tools you have your going to need it. Happy Camping.

I don't go overboard, however I feel being somewhat prepared is critical. Here is a list of items I try to maintain.

Air compressor.
Impact wrench.
Cordless drill.
Multi meter.
IR Temp gun.
Hand tool variety.
Propane torch.
Torque wrench.
Bottle jack.
Trailer aid.
Portable lights including multiple flashlights.
Repair parts for minor repairs including electrical, plumbing and structural.
Lubricants and sealers.

This $40 Harbor Freight kit, a 12v air compressor, and a big +1 on baling wire (coat hangers in my case)

toothpicks, some wood glue and a screwdriver that looks like this:



Of all the repairs I’ve ever had to make on any of my trailers, by far the most common one has been screws falling out of the hinges on various cabinet doors.

X2 on the Harbor freight kit! PLUS:
A torque wrench for tightening/checking your tire lug nuts
a Impact wrench for *removing* lug nuts
(Got mine on sale at Harbor Freight)
A cordless drill (ever try to manually retract/extend a slideout?)
A 3 Gal Compressor (good for more than putting air in tires )
A Fuse Puller
Multimeter


Or you could just go with the cell phone and credit card
