Use of toilet in freezing temps

We have just spent two weeks at our daughters place in NM. 8000' elevation. 5 degrees at night. Water system was winterized. However we used the toilet and after dumping, added gallon of antifreeze. Each time we "flushed" we poured in a little water. When we went to dump the tanks, they were frozen.

Should I be using antifreeze to flush? Artic pack was turned on.

Does anyone have experience with this?

By the way, used portable electric heater set at 65 degrees and propane furnace set at 60 degrees. No problem keeping temp comfortable. Used 2.2 gallons of propane in a two week period. Very happy with the performance.

Use windshield washer fluid (much cheaper than antifreeze) to flush and when you are done, add water to the tank and drain. Then re-winterize.

Edit: you probably would have been better off using the furnace only at a higher temperature setting.

As you know the antifreeze also freezes it just doesn't expand like water so you may not gain a thing using antifreeze.
