Question Battery Disconnect Switch

Does anyone know if the Forest River units normally come with a Battery disconnect switch ? The owners manual makes no reference, so I am assuming not ? Looking at a practical way for quick disconnect of the 12 volt system from the trailer when not in use on my Vcross 6504

TV - Chevy Traverse
TT - 2013 Vibe 6504

Check the line coming from the battery into the camper. If you don't have a formal 'cutoff' you may have an inline fuse in the battery line that you can remove to cut power to the interior appliances.

I knew my new TT was listed as having a cutoff but couldn't figure out where it was until we had our PDI. It's hidden behind the propane tank.

My 2013 Vibe 826VFK did not have a battery disconnect. I mounted one purchased at Advance Auto Parts in the battery compartment interrupting the negative side so as to also disable the electric tongue jack when open.

I didn't see a battery disconnect switch listed as a feature or option for the Vibe. Which is good as I think you can do a better job yourself. The switches they are installing on the Flagstaffs and Rockwoods, such as the Roo, are installed near the converter and are a push pull design.

I have ALWAYS installed a battery disconnect as close to the battery as possible be this with a trailer or a boat. I prefer to place it on positive.

There are many designs and models of switch. I like the Blue Sea brand because they are made for marine use. Depending on your battery(ies) you can get one that fits your needs.

This one is good with a single 12-volt or a bank of two 6-volts

Blue Sea 6006 M-Series (mini) Battery Switch Single Circuit On/off

This one is good with two 12 volts or separate battery banks

Blue Sea Systems 6007 m-Series (Mini) Battery Switch Selector

I can't say if they "normally" come with a battery disconnect switch, but our 2012 Silverback came with one. It is located in the water servicing compartment and is a red key with a lanyard attached. The key fits into a receptable and you turn it for off and on. It has to be turned off in order to remove the key.

When not boondocking, my 5er is plugged into shore power at home or the campground or connected to tow vehicle when in motion during camping season from April - October. When I store for winter, I remove the battery and store it in my garage and occasional put a charger on it during the off season. I have no requirement for a battery disconnect switch.

Just saying...

I've purchased the blue sea on off switch like posted above. The wiring on the rv to the battery positive side is an 8 guage wire. I want to hook up the 8 guage wire to the common side of the switch and a standard 4 guage battery wire to the battery to the battery side of the switch.

Question: Is there any reason, I should not hook up the larger standard battery wire?

racerx,

There should be no problem going larger in cable size, never go smaller. The only down side I could see is the termination lugs being to large to get a good connection on the switch. You want to make sure the inner diameter (hole size) of the lug is same as the threaded termination on the switch.
