New Vibe 28rl purchase and towing

about to upgrade from a 23ft wolfpup 18TO 3900lbs to a Vibe 28rl which is 34ft 6700lbs dry, tonque weight 750lbs, question is my TV is a 2018 silverado 5.3 z71 4wd standard box, max tow weight 9600lbs, using a wdh, the weight/calculator says im good up to(possible incorrect numbers) 8800lbs. Do other haulers have a similar combination and how does this truck have enough capacity? Others have chimed in from the 1/2 ton truck tow section and its very mixed, some say no problem some say no way. Any input is appreciated

madatme, I have a 268rks Vibe that I think is about weight, etc. When I purchased it, I towed with an 09 Titan. The tow portion was ok. I didnt like the way it stopped. Also didnt think it would handle up and down grades that well. Gave Titan up for F250 short bed 6.2 gasser. The only thing I sweat now is gas availibility. I just make plans around that.

I have a 28’ unit also and loaded at 7500 lbs towing with a tundra. I am thinking you will be fine once the wdh is set up to your liking and a few runs. Just remember the basics and keep it 60-65 and others can go around you. Only challenge may be large grades but you do have the 8 speed trans so just need to find your max torque spot

We have a 2017 Sierra 1500 4x4 too.. rated at 9100 with a 1500lb payload, 5.3 liter engine and we're pulling a 268rks with no problem (it too is around 34.5 feet long). 34 feet is a bit long for the wheelbase but if you take your time, even during windy days, I don't get impacted too much.

Well i did it, my new vib 28rl is in my driveway, its bigger than expected but very nice, tows pretty good with my silverado 1500 and fastway E2 hitch, a little sway is noticed, i can feel it in the rear of the truck , kinda a squirmy motion, the braking is very good, my mpg went from 12 down to 9 which was expected, in the spring i will recheck the hitch adjustment

I would have recommended the 4pt Equal-i-zer with that big of a trailer, being pulled by a 1/2 ton, instead of the E2.

If you towed the trailer totally empty of 'stuff', then your hitch weight would probably have been too low in the first place. That's what we found too when we brought our trailer home (268rks with GMC 1500 short bed). When we added weight in the front storage, added more stuff in the trailer, made sure the distribution of weight was good, the trailer pulled a lot nicer. You may still need to adjust things with the WHD when you're loaded up. That's what we found with ours anyway. Happy trails.

New Vibe 28rl purchase and towing

I have the 288RLS also and tow with an F150 with the 5.0. One thing to take into account is some people have the sky is falling approach, so take 1/2 ton recommendations with a grain of salt. There is a big difference between your 1500 and a basic standard cab with a 6cyl.

Yeah you won’t set any speed records, nor should anybody try with a TT regardless of TV. W are in SW Pa and have towed through the mountains here and in WVa. Yeah we go slower not to beat the TVbut we still keep a pretty good pace, don’t run anywhere near max power, still usually around 35-38k rpm.

We put on better tires, played with the wdh and it tows well. As for stopping, regardless of what TV you still need to dial in the brakes.

We love the 288RLS. Happy camping

Madatme, I am looking at getting the vib 28rl and have an F150. Can I ask what your payload capacity of your F150 is found on the yellow sticker in the door jam?

Also what would you say your passenger/cargo weight is in the truck when you are towing?

Thanks

madatme has a Chevy Silverado 1500, not a F150. They have a silver sticker with the max payload number.
