Just picked up my 17 RAM 1500 hunnert' and same week I purchased a Clipper 15FL to go with it. 2560 pounds dry. Single axle. electric brakes. Since it's only 7'6'' wide I don't need ginormus mirrors. I put a Curt brake controller on it since my 1500 didn't have it. I'm debating on whether I need a sway or equalizing hitch installed.
Tows like a dream. Hardly know it's back there till I get to the steep stuff.

Steven, easy answer......towing capacity of your truck?
I have a 2003 and my towing capacity is 10,000 lbs
So, there is your answer. Newer models have more towing capacity.
Now, I used to have a TT that weights 8,000 lbs; and I hope you know the drill...1,000 lbs in storage, total 9,000 lbs. My truck was pushing the limit. I was getting 8 mpg avg. Ouch! and I was making The Hemi works really hard.

Don't forget payload capacity. You will always exceed payload before towing capacity. With that light of trailer you should be ok with payload as long as you do not overload the bed of your truck.

I am towing a 32 foot 5th wheel. Added LT tires and airbags but am still 400# over spec on rear axle. That 5.7 Hemi and 8spd trans handle it great. Did 12,550 miles to Alaska and back last summer plus a few short trips in Arizona. I got the heavy tow package and Moose Mirrors.

My 2017 is listed at 10,100 so it's not much more than your 2003.

Your ram should have a brake controller, is it a 6 cylinder?

Towing 2014 Salem Cruise Lite 252RLXL with 2016 RAM 1500. Keep the total weight under 7,000 pounds. TW under 600 pounds. Using WDH and no issues except it drinks more gasoline than Exxon produces in a year. Never met a gas station this set up felt safe to pass up.

I see you got up on the RIGHT side of the bed this morning...
What I don't like about a FCA Ram 1500 is the rear suspension. Far as I'm concerned coil springs belong on lugs your butt cars, not a truck.
If I ever get out your way, I'll put my Ford in a ditch and see if can extract it. I have my doubts.
If you cannot, you pay for the tow...

I tow a Wildwood 27RKSS. about 6700 lbs. The hemi tows it well but as others have stated it sucks some gas..I did install AirLift bags on the rear. remote control and usually take about 15 lbs of pressure to level the ride. Also have a WD hitch that helps a bunch. I love my ram. Pulled my son in laws Ford out of a ditch just the other day....

Hidee ho
We tow our 2013 FR Surveyor Sport 220 25' trailer with our 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi 4X4. Trailer weighs 5000lb loaded and truck is rated to tow 8500lbs. It tows it quite well and has plenty of power. We use a WD hitch and I have load range d tires on both truck and trailer. Truck mods include Bullydog tuner, 85mm throttle body, AFE dry air filter, Moroso catch can, Firestone air bags, Leer cap. Tires on the trailer are Carlisle Radial Trail HD, tires on truck are BF Goodrich KO2's. this setup tows great and I cisistently get 12mpg at 65mph.
If we get a longer or heavier trailer, I would consider a 3/4 ton or bigger truck.
